In the space of one year, Americans have willingly jettisoned liberty.
I’m not getting the COVID vaccine. I’m not recommending that course of action and, although I do have my reasons, it’s mostly just stubbornness. I don’t want to follow the herd and I won’t be told what I must do for my own well-being. Not in this country. I’m still an American, even if we are becoming an endangered species. It amazes me to watch my countrymen going about their business every day having completely forgotten who they are as Americans. We must somehow relearn our heritage of liberty.
It’s laughable to see otherwise normal people walking around outside with masks on. Regardless of what anyone on TV or elsewhere has told them, it’s extremely unlikely that you’ll catch the virus while walking your dog.
I see more people alone in their cars all masked up. In the past, this made me chuckle, but it’s become so common that the foolishness of it gets under my skin. Does your car have COVID? Are you going to infect yourself? Where has common sense gone?
Some people I talk with are still masking despite having received the vaccine. If the vaccine is so useless then why take it at all? They’re quick to say that their mask is for my protection, but I don’t want or need them to protect me. And if the vaccine works, then how is it that you are protecting me? This is America. I can make my own decisions about my welfare. We are adults in a free country. We can make our own choices about living our lives. We can and should be responsible for ourselves. If we’re not careful, that responsibility will be taken away from us.

I thought you were referring to MtnClimber saying he was ready to be “Flamed”....LOL
Yup. I just put the mask on at the last possible moment before I enter a store, wear it below my nose the entire time (I have glasses that fog up otherwise) then remove the mask the instant I leave the store.
This is in Massachusetts, not exactly a bastion on conservative freedom. But nobody has ever said a word to me. I’ll get an occasional dirty look as my mask rides below my nose, but that’s it.
People that enter stores deliberately without a mask looking for a confrontation are assholes. The poor shmucks working in the stores are just tryine to make a living.
No, I’d never say that. Heh.
That’s about where I am. My dad got the vaccine and I’m grateful to DJT’s warp speed effort for making it available to him. I’m personally not planning to get one. I’m not in a demographic where there’s much risk of/from infection and frankly I just don’t really think about it. I do find this vaccination passport stuff is troubling.
Regarding masks, I wear one at the store if required and that’s it. I think masks may have a small benefit indoors by blocking some airborn droplets. But overall I detest the masks, in large part because to me they symbolize the left’s manipulation and exploitation of COVID. What concerns me now is how quickly and how completely things return to normal. My unhappy guess is we’ll see mask wearing by many leftists and some fraction of the general public, hopefully small, well beyond COVID.
Such high and mighty talk. Are you suggesting I move? I think masks are dumb. But if i have to pull some extremely thin (and TOTALLY ineffective) neck gaitor over my nose for a few minutes, its no skin off my nose. Their business, their rules.
Let me ask this — When you see a business that says “no shirt, no shoes, no service” do you huff and puff and walk out? Again, their business, their rules.
So I’m not a patriot if I get the vaccine?
I think of conservatives as free thinkers, able to make their own decisions. Not judgmental nannies out sticking their noses in everyones business. I chose to get it. MY choice. You choose not to get it. YOUR choice.
Informed consent? Who’s informed? You’re asked to sign that you understand the vaccinators have no liability. The thing’s experimental and nobody knows what’ll happen to the vaxxed, five years or twenty down the road.
All we’re informed of is that we can’t blame anyone but ourselves if there are bad consequences.
So, I’ll pass.

But how is informed consent with regard to vaccination possible after we’ve been lied to by so many about so much?”
That’s the problem; I can’t do informed consent when the information has been unreliable and changing.
Stores requiring masks.
Couple options:
1) clear face shield on glasses frame.
2) tell them “medical exemption”.

Here in FL, which hasn’t had a mask mandate since (IIRC) last summer, we can always tell the tourists from the locals: tourists walking outdoor in masks and masks while driving.
Not many businesses require masks anymore, but we do not enter them. I’m sick of the nanny-ism.
Touchy much? I said nothing of the sort. I just said I find it perplexing.
How about not frequenting them and giving them your money?

Then I don’t eat.
There’s always option #2
“Medical exemption”.
