....But in the “anti-racism” hysteria that has gripped education and other segments of society, because trees were once used for lynching, they now are worrisome symbols that might offend… somebody. Somebody with a very low IQ, it seems to me. I’m so old that I remember when environmental extremists were derisively called “tree huggers,” a term which now must be held by some in positions of authority to be vaguely racist. Consider this absurd worry from the Portland School Board, via the New York Post:
A Portland high school delayed a vote to change its mascot to an evergreen tree over concerns about its potential ties to lynching, a report said.
Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School — named after the prominent black activist and reporter who documented lynching — was set to vote on the new mascot last Tuesday until a board director shared community concerns over the tree’s imagery, the Portland Tribune reported.
“I’m wondering if there was any concern with the imagery there, in using a tree … as our mascot?” Portland Public Schools Board of Education Director Michelle DePass asked at the meeting.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it seems that Evergreen trees are not racist; only deciduous ones. It’s doubtful that a lynching was ever done using an evergreen. Their limb structure doesn’t lend itself to that. No, probably 99 and 44/100, if not ALL lynchings took place on deciduous trees. And ironic as it may seem, it’s possible that the majority of them were done on one particular species; the White Oak, as per The Ballad of Tom Dooley.....”This time tomorrow, Reckon where I’ll be, Down in some lonesome valley, Hangin’ from a White Oak tree”. I rest my case.
How DARE they deliberately choose a mascot named after a capitalist Taiwanese - owned , oil-polluting, oil-burning shipping company that competes directly against the free people of ecologically pure communist China!

Has this Oregon School Board Director, Michelle DePass, forgot that up north, Washington State is called the Evergreen State? Depass needs to step down from his position and admit he is too stupid to run the Board of Education.

If trees are racist due to the connection with lynching, surely hemp is also racist for being the material the rope was made of back then. If the left is consistent, and we all know they are far more crazy than consistent, they will soon call for the banning of all hemp related products. It’s only logical don’t cha know.

Bill Maher (of all people) talked about this recently. He called Americans “a silly people” for focusing on garbage like this while China was powering ahead.
And yeah, I know. Maher is a terrible person. But in this case he’s right.
They could select a rock as a mascot, but that would be offensive to dumb people because of “dumb as a box of rocks.” But there is no more apropos mascot for Public Schools Board of Education Director Michelle DePass.
The tigers get so mad that they run around the tree faster and faster, until they turn into melted butter. Then the kid's father saunters by, sees the butter, and goes, "That looks like some great butter lying on the ground. I'm gonna take that home to my wife." The kids mom goes, "Hey, this is good, we'll all have pancakes for dinner." And the mother eats 27, the father eats 55, and the boy eats 169. The end.
“Jim Crow” reminds me of a jimmy bar, a type of tool. Therefore all tools are offensive and must be destroyed (right after we eliminate all crows and other birds).
We could all sleep in caves, but somehow I think caves are offensive, too.
