Peter Schiff: When our republic was formed voting was not a right!
Peter Schiff ^ | April 4 | Peter Schiff

@PeterSchiff

When our republic was formed voting was not a right. There is no "right to vote" in the Bill of Rights. Voting was a privilege restricted by age, poll taxes, literacy tests, property ownership, etc. The goal was an informed and responsible electorate, not maximum participation.

@PeterSchiff

The goal of an election is good government. It's better to have a good government elected by a minority, then a bad one elected by a majority. I'd rather not qualify to vote personally and have others elect a good government, then participate in the process of electing a bad one.

It’s that “thing”, using Biden’s description for everything, that keeps us from being a Democratic Socialist State or in other words DemocRATS.

The explosion of the democratic element since the direct election of senators, voting by women, repeal of Jim Crow, abolition of poll taxes, lowering the voting age to eighteen, extension of voting from a single day to a couple of weeks, same day registration, motor voter, voting rights for ex-convicts, and provisional ballots, . . . all serve to extend the franchise to an ever-expanding portion of the public. But, to what end?

A practically unlimited franchise is, to Progressives, also the means to an end – social justice. In addition, when an action is practically unlimited, when there are few limitations, over time the action becomes an assumed right. Rather than serve as the means to a just end, Progressives (with lots of help from Scotus) have warped an expansive franchise into a right that supersedes all others, including legislative law making.

To the Framers, consent of the governed in the form of a limited right to elect reps to the House comprised a just means to a desired end – free government. The limited franchise is both a right and the means to an end – free government.

To Progressives, an ever-expanding right for one and all to vote for unencumbered rulers is the just means to an unjust end – social justice. Everyone, citizen and illegal alien alike, have a nearly unlimited franchise right, which is the necessary means to a despotic end. The unlimited franchise is a right superior to others, as well as the means to an end – despotic government.

On the Right to Vote Part I.

Things hinge on a lot more than that amendment. Why else did the left ramp up the fraud so blatantly last year?

My mother votes for the most conservative candidates she can find, BTW. There are still a lot of “males” out there that could theoretically cance out her vote.

The vote should be removed from immigrants, women, anyone under 25-30, anyone (but the military) who gets a penny of government money and anyone who can’t read aloud the Constitution and copy it by hand in front of witnesses.
People who move from one state to another should lose the right to vote for 10 years.
I’m open to suggestions for more restrictions.

I also think local governments should be required to be bicameral with one house voted for only by property owners and the other voted for only by non-property owners.

Even conservative-voting women?

Remember, it was an all-male electorate that got us Woodrow Wilson, and more than once, with promises of appeasement to boot.

The 2020 cheat-fest proved that women per se were not a factor in shifting votes leftward.

Women tend to vote for bigger government because of biological and psychological differences.
Every conservative women has her vote more than cancelled out by all the other women.
Conservative women and everyone else would be better off if women couldn’t vote.

And if you are religious the Bible says it is a curse when women rule and in a republic the voters rule.

Generalization. And also impugning my mother. No women voted for Wilson, to reiterate.

The Bible says it’s a curse when women rule in families. It’s still a curse when men rule a nation too, and not God; consider the debacle with Saul son of Kish becoming king of Israel, and an elected king to boot. The USA through the First Amendment upheld the principle of “No king but Jesus”.

Like it or not, not every Constitution-loving patriot is going to agree with you about what “Natural Born Citizen” means.

Anyone who has read the Constitution of the United States knows exactly what it means.

The very most one could hope to restrict the eventual voting pool is to exclude felons actually in jail and non-citizens.

Outside of that, eventually, the technology and law will be there for *every body* to cast a vote, be it electronically, by mail, by proxy or by being able to go physically

If Republicans can't win with every single citizen voting, they are utter history.

Yeah, back in the ‘good old days (to some) mere gender, race, or finances could exclude a person, but that's gone, ain't never coming back.

I would expect for voting to be both available online and actually required in 20-30 years. Adapt or die.

Eventually it will be 100%.

The problem is any test for it is going to be highly controversial and condemned as RACIST, etc.

I am so tired of hearing this thoughy repeated over and over as s reaso why we can't do what is right. What is RIGHT! Who cares what a bunch of losers in life care about anything, I sure don't. As Admiral Perry said, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

By this logic the poor, women and folks of different ethnic origin would not have the right to vote.

I am glad it is not true anymore as every adult should have that right to vote.

Based on other countries, it is a dictator and his buddies that raid the treasury etc.

The peasants usually get the shaft.

But, you keep believing in whatever you want.
