The guy who is extorting him is a lawyer involved in the case of the former FBI official Levinson who disappeared in March 2007 only to later turn up as a hostage. Levinson died in Iran waiting for help from the Obama admin that never came.
McGee claimed he was a friend of Levinson. He then began representing the Levinson family in a lawsuit against Iran [which of course will never pay up.]
While he was representing the family, the family kept very quiet and the hostage case went on with very little mention in the press. That silence didn’t benefit the family or the hostage but it sure was convenient to those people behind the Iran Deal. The Obama admin’s FBI even pushed the bullshit idea that they were cooperating with Iran to find out what happened to Levinson.
Seems pretty obvious that the NY Times leaked the info in order to alert McGee he is the subject of an investigation into extortion.
Question is, who leaked to the Times?

My appreciation for Gaetz has grown considerably in the past year or so, mostly because he represents Trump-like fortitude in his Committee assignments whether the camera is on or off; and he has been a real asset on Bannon compared to Huey, Dewey and Louie.
Just to be clear, I was speaking in the context of a ‘sex related crime/incident.’ That why I said in a ‘case like this.’
I’ve been burned so many times in the past by politicians unequivocally denying some kind of sexual misconduct/scandal, that I know longer give them the benefit of the doubt particularly when law enforcement is actually investigating something.
Could this be a calculated political hit-job just like Kavanagh? Sure. The FBI has proven they’re not above that kind of thing, at all. But, I think caution is warranted considering that a Gaetz associate’s indictment last year on the same charge (along with several other charges), warrants some caution when evaluating this issue.
Additionally, when Katy Hill got into that ‘throuple’ debacle a couple of years ago, there was one GOP Congressman who defended her behavior. Who was that Congressman? Matt Gaetz. That struck me as odd. Still does.
The guy who he says was trying to extort him was the pro-bono lawyer involved in the case of missing retired FBI agent Levinson, who disappeared after meeting with an expat American fugitive on Iran’s Kish Island. The lawyer and Levinson’s family are Floridians.
The fugitive was employed by Iranian media at the time-by PressTV. Originally he was a black American convert to Islam in the 1970s and 80s. He assassinated one of the Shah of Iran’s diplomats one day in Washington DC, then fled the country for the Middle East.
He says Levinson stayed at a hotel on Kish Island together immediately before Levinson disappeared, later to appear in videos pleading for his life while dressed in an orange jumpsuit.
If you ask me this attack on Gaetz is about Iran and Russia, not about dating women.
He’s in the FR search engine where he appeared in an article about a US hostage in Iran.
