OUR WASHINGTON DISPATCHES.
WASHINGTON, Friday, March 29.
THE FORT SUMPTER POLICY.
The Southern Commissioners have received letters from home, which develop the fact that the leaders at the South desire the evacuation of Fort Sumpter as tending to recognize Southern independence, and that it will be so regarded abroad.
Hon. JAMES G. PALFREY has been appointed Postmaster of Boston. Though not a resident of that city, he will comply with the law by removing thither. Mr. PALFREY's willingness to accept such an appointment excites very general surprise.
A long Cabinet meeting was held to-day, but no additional appointments of importance transpired. The California appointments are expected to be made in time to send out by the next steamer. Ten Californians were presented to the President to-day by Senator BAKER, to express their wish that he (Mr. BAKER,) should be consulted relative to California appointments. The President heard them through, and then, evidently suspecting the "close corporation" dodge, suggested that "all" the Californians in town wait on him to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock. At that hour not less than forty Californians will protest against any and all outside interference with California appointments.
Judge ALLEN A. BURTON, of Kentucky, will decline the Chief Justiceship of Dacotah, and will probably receive a better appointment.
Secretary CAMERON left for Harrisburgh to-day, to bring his family to Washington. He returns Tuesday next.
Minister CORWIN leaves to-morrow for Ohio, from whence he proceeds to New-Orleans, to take the steamer Tennessee, on the 15th proximo, for Vera Cruz. All the variations of slates in connection with the New-York appointments seem to leave Hon. ABRAM WAKEMAN a fixture for Surveyor.

Spoiler alert: It all ended horribly for the South.
