It may be wrong but it only sounds wrong then to a very few people...
Many think that the awkward version sounds smarter. The same goes with the use of "myself" in place of "I" or "me" in a sentence.
Example: David and myself went to the park.
David and myself probably went to public school post 1965 or so.
