Chicago is famous for many things: tall buildings, great universities, a history of organized crime, and deep-dish pizza.
The two goliaths in this game are Giordano's and Lou Malnati's. I'm no deep-dish expert, but I had my share of the dense, cheesy pie during my college years in the Chicago area. Deep-dish was the pizza of choice at most gatherings, unfortunately for me as I am lactose-intolerant.
Aside from the fact that deep-dish always made me feel sick, I remembered thinking Giordano's was slightly better than Lou Malnati's. But that might have just been because people ate it more.
In general, I never saw what all the fuss was about. Deep-dish just never tasted that good to me.

I am of the opinion that Chicago deep dish pizza is a valid thing, is enjoyable, but should not be considered in competition with regular pizza. It is a similar but very different food group that confusingly uses the same name.
I tell ya what, decent pizza is hard to find in Tx and you can forget about calzones, but there was a hole in the wall in Richardson Tx, that had a good calzone and the Scungilli salad was amazing
For those that live in the bay area Zachary’s in Berkeley next to really get deep dish pizza
What sort of pie does The Hill area of St Louis have....I know the German area in west St. Louis has that unusual preval cheese pie but the Hill area has a serious concentration of Italian food to rival Brooklyn or the North End
Growing up in NY we called the thick, deep crust Sicilian pizza. 3x the thickness of the regular NY style pizza and square shape. Not quite the similarity to Chicago Deep Dish however.
WANT
I could not say.
I drove through St Louis, but never stopped.
There is nothing evil about BBQ or pizza (not even pineapple).
There is just okay, good, better, and great!
I did read it. I’m having a slow morning here.
I found her Twitter feed. An interesting take on the victims of the Atlanta shootings: “They were immigrants who had arrived, as so many do, with dreams of what could be.” I don’t doubt they had dreams, but I do doubt the dreams involved working in a massage parlor.
>>Malnati’s also has the option on their pizzas for “regular crust” or “butter crust”. Butter is better.<<
They have a crust-less where the base is the sausage...works wonders for me.
I may be the only person in the world who hates pizza. Disgusting stuff. Yuk.
I also hate chocolate. So sue me.
This is not the best deep dish. But these are the two largest local chains that serve deep dish. There is a lot of cheese in deep dish. So if you like cheese, its the way to go. Deep dish is a meal. One large slice is enough for most women and men can rarely finish more than two pieces. If you want the best, go to Gino’s East or Uno or Duo. These are more original. There are lots of locals that do a good job. The most important thing is cheese has to be high quality mozzarella. And the crust should be almost pastry like. A good tangy sauce cuts through the cheese flavor. You can add Pepperoni and spinach. But remember, its already a meal.
Surely she isn’t too naive to understand how the Thai massage rackets run

That’s the reason the nut killed them...’not their race
I agree about using real cheese

The numbers speak. Dallas area based pizza joints outsell those tiny Chicago and New York shops. Who hasn't had a Dallas style pizza at a Pizza Hut (Plano), or Cicis (Irving, originally Plano), Pizza Inn or Pie Five (The Colony).
When people vote with their money, they vote Dallas Style.
No doubt.
