Gene Simmons is done with the Golden State. The Kiss rocker has announced his departure from California after more than 35 years.
“We are moving out of L.A. for a number of reasons: one of which are the tour buses,” Simmons explained to the New York Post. “After a certain point, we have had enough of that, even though we appreciate the attention.”
It’s not just the tourists that have gotten to Simmons. The rocker listed “earthquakes, fires and pandemics every year” among his further reasons for moving.

Instead, the Kiss bassist will now reside in a 12,000-square-foot mansion in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
“The quality of life is better there, so we can go hiking without bumping into people,” Simmons declared, adding that the concept of a “quieter life” attracted him to the locale. Another reason for Nevada’s draw? The fact that it has no state income tax. “Taxes there are also much more appealing,” Simmons admitted, adding that California’s taxes had made the state “inhabitable.”
This isn’t the first time that Simmons has announced his displeasure with California. In October 2020, the rocker proclaimed he was leaving his affluent Beverly Hills suburb because tax rates had become “unacceptable.” “I work hard and pay my taxes and I don’t want to cry the Beverly Hills blues but enough is enough,” the Kiss icon declared at the time.
Simmons put his Beverly Hills mansion up for sale last year at an asking price of $22 million. Since then, he pulled it off the market, performed a series of renovations, and relisted the property at $25 million.
The story of his early life in Israel as portrayed in his book “on Power” is an amazing story.
He said his mom moved there after leaving a Nazi death camp after the war. Said he had no TV, no radio, no anything. Said every single thing in his life was used and reused. He never saw a disposable item to include toilet paper. He said the family mended clothes until they were rags, and those were used for TP and then washed and used again.
He said when his mom was allowed to come to America, they were at a consulate and a US Officer told her to raise her hand to swear an oath. She shot her hand out in a Nazi salute. He described the officer coming around from the desk and moving her arm down into the American “swearing in” position and telling her she would never have to give that salute again. He said she burst into tears. He says he will never forget what America did for him.
It goes on to describe arriving in New York and being utterly unable to process what he saw. Then how hard he had to work to lose his Jewish accent etc.
It’s an interesting read. I’ll give the guy some slack.
LOL Lemmy would rip off his head and puke down his neck. I did see Kiss live in San Diego at the Coors Amphitheater in the early 2000s. They were back in full Kabuki and opening for Aerosmith. Much better live than on CD, the show was fun. What was really fun was watching Joe Perry kick the ever loving shit out of Ace Frehley. No comparison.

As you say, pure kabuki
My wife is a huge old school rock music fan. The last concert she took me to was Kiss in Kansas before COVID. I’m not a big fan of their music, but they put on a great show.
Can’t wait till I can go see a concert again, hopefully country music.
And their is no hope because we have lost the ability to vote
I don’t care for their music, but this was a really cool story from their early days...

sad days for aerosmith, the first real concert of mylife in 1974
LOL, the Kiss members always went around wearing masks, before they removed the makeup in the 80s.
We’re also leaving CA for good next month.
UHaul canceled our truck rental reservation because there are so many outbound trucks from CA that they can’t replenish them in time.
Hate the band, hate Gene, love Chaim the American citizen and businessman.
Simmons on Lemmy.
He said in October he was moving to Washington.
They used the troops for their concert attendance. When BLM riots were going on, they supported them.
If listening to Lemmy’s “1916” doesn’t make you bawl your eyes out, you aren’t human.
If he moved to Montana soon, he could become a Dental Floss Tycoon.
“And that’s why it’s good to be ....Me”
Leaving to go and f up some other place after helping f up California.
