Top 10 Reasons You Should Own An AR-15
The Federalist ^ | 12/12/2018 | Mark Overstreet

Posted on 03/24/2021 12:06:50 PM PDT by Kid Shelleen

In a recent item for The Federalist, David Harsanyi considered the M16 rifle one of the five most innovative firearms in American firearm development history. Yet something equally significant can be said about the semi-automatic AR-15 derived from the M16. Second to the muskets used in our revolutionary and civil wars, the AR-15 may be the most important firearm in American political history.

All told, more Americans have fired more rounds from more AR-15s for personal defense, defensive firearm training, marksmanship competitions, individual practice, and hunting than from any other rifle. For that reason, the AR-15 is the primary firearm upon which Americans would rely if they had to fight for freedom today.

Here are 10 reasons to own at least one AR-15 and to become skilled in its use

I am looking to buy an AR-15 with my stimulus but its very confusing since there is such wide price range.
Can someone tell if modestly price AR-15s are a good way to get your feet? Thanks in advance for feedback FRiends.

I am shopping around for the following; Ruger AR-556 (about $900) or Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport II (about $850)

Either will work. Get them while you can.

Where do you get one and once it’s registered, how long before they attempt to take it away.

I have the SW sport. It did not have a forward assist, but it’s never failed to cycle. The barrel is decent. You will want to get a red dot or get some decent sights.

I don’t need to look at the list. Is “I just want one” on there?

They’ll both work well. Another one to look at is Rock River. Whatever you get make sure it’s chambered in 5.56mm rather than .223.

That is one of the reasons the AR-15 is appealing to me. There are lots of add-ons to create a variety of situations. I am just not sure what I missing out on from the more expensive models.

See reason #5. The AR-15 is the most modular rifle in history.

If you are at the entry level of asking where to buy online, you are very late to the game.

Go to any gun store or pawn shop and purchase any brand name 9mm etc. pistol immediately. That’s step one.

Those are good choices. I prefer the Ruger myself.

There are all sorts of differences: the metallurgy of the components, chrome linings, the “finish”, etc. Most of that stuff is of marginal value for the weekend shooters.

I have advised people to go with well reviewed inexpensive rifles and then upgrade as you want.

“AR-15 derived from the M-16”

BS. The ar has been around since 1947.

IF you are not going to war and have to rely on the tool for years, the more modest priced ARs are more than adequate. You can get 10 to 20 thousand rounds out them. Carbon fiber uppers and lowers with steel barrels are a nice way to ‘get your feet wet’.

First of all, it’s an AR-14.

...and you can get .447 ammo everywhere.
