The Spectator’s Amber Athey reports that South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem says she’s the victim of “conservative cancel culture” over her opposition to a bill making its way through the state legislature to “promote continued fairness in women’s sports”

Please no one cancelled you... but you have foolishly put any future desire for National Office at risk
Because of a headline?
Or did you actually read why she wanted those two sections of this particular bill changed?
Never mind... That was rhetorical.
No, she’s a victim of common sense. But sure, let’s go ahead, let’s ruin women’s chances of getting to pro sports by excluding colleges from protections for biological women.
“Not ready for prime time, but this shouldn’t have been surprising because she has never really been tested. South Dakota is a fine state, but it has fewer than 1 million people and hasn’t had a Democrat win a statewide election in over a decade. One term as a Republican governor of such a state is no proof that she is ready to run for President.”
Between her virus response and her looks, I suspect a lot of people projected leadership in her.
Now we’re back to reality.
woops, somebody just jumped the shark...
The time to get the provisions included that Noem wanted was in committee (controlled by her party) before the legislature approved it. Noem’s, after-the-fact rational doesn’t ring true. It sounds like what it is - a lame ass excuse by a politician too long accustomed to kid glove treatment and the benefit of the doubt.
Angry that her myasthenia was exposed she doubled down on stupid. Strictly speaking, Noem just ain’t ready for prime time.
Lawyers who advocated for eliminating law suits. How quaint!
Good Lord. A student has a cause of action for damages if he or she suffered “indirect harm” from a violation? Including mental anguish and attorney fees? And the school district itself can sue for damages?
By this language, a student who isn’t even on the girls soccer team could sue for mental anguish because he feels bad that the girl’s soccer team lost to another team that had a tranny. And the school itself could join in.
That’s an obscene giveaway to plaintiff’s lawyers. And I’m saying that as a plaintiff’s lawyer myself.
And yet so many on here are poo-pooing her decision to send it back.
Oh I am quite aware what 2 sections she wants changed...
The idea that men are not women only through high school is repugnant.
Well I’m not a lawyer, but when you go back up and read section 2, all the school has to do is obtain a statement from the athlete verifying their sex at birth. And then it even says if they doubt they “may” remove the athlete from participation. It sounds like the section you quoted would put the burden on the person claiming they suffered damage, and seems focus on preventing schools from ignoring the law.
She’s right.....actually
You must work intimately with Tenhuizen and McCaulley, or you are particularly obsequious towards cultural abnormality.
Tell me I’m wrong about the undue influence of these two ‘advisors’.
Then, as a plaintiff’s lawyer, let us all know how to put teeth into the law, because we all know it’s gutted by Noem’s modifications at this point.
Unless you don’t want to put teeth into this law.
What, in her response, makes her any more right than Pence was when he crawled away from supporting Indiana’s ‘Religious Freedom’ law?
Why should we regard her as any better a swamp GOPe creature than we do Pence?
Remember Bush? Real conservatives do. And we don’t like it.
OK. You are wrong.
Hahahahahahaha!!
You’re not a pundit.
You’re a standup comedian.
Tip: don’t quit your day job.
I know you’re real
I’m fake.....of course
Not my first rodeo here....if we purge every single person who missteps die to the forces of reality we’ll have no candidates ever
Even Trump twice maybe thrice I recall went pragmatic
The problem with some people is not what they know, but that so much for what they know is wrong.
