The Post says: Get weapons of war off America’s streets

Eight slain in Atlanta, now 10 in Boulder. Your town could be next. Can the nation finally do something about weapons of war on our streets?

President Joe Biden called Tuesday for Congress to move immediately to “ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.” It’s a start, though he’ll have to reach across party lines for real this time, since some Democrats are as anti-gun-control as the bulk of today’s GOP.

The New York Post does not see this as a conservative or liberal issue — it’s an issue of life and death. Curbing guns is what led to New York City’s three-decade reduction in murders. And, sadly, it’s the dismissal of that progress that has led to a rise in shootings here. Outside the city, the toll of semi-automatic weapons is a sad litany of cities and schools: Newtown, Parkland, Aurora, Las Vegas. It’s a national shame.

We called on President Donald Trump to act, and we’ll happily support Biden in a fight for the needed changes. Polls show most Americans want this. It’s the political establishment that is frozen.

...Actually, weapons of war are in very few hands of the public in the U.S...

The fact that true weapons of war have been denied us for a long time does not change the intent of the 2A.

Just read the full text. It is very clear that the founders wanted to be able to raise a local militia which could challenge an invading army.

I wonder if one would ask these jackasses which they would rather be hit by.

A 5.56 military rifle? Or a 308 hunting rifle? Or..a 300 win mag hunting rifle?

Lets break it down more. Which would you suppose they might rather to be hit by? A 5.56 military round? Or a 308 soft point hunting round? I wont bother with the other. That one would...

It is very clear that the founders wanted to be able to raise a local militia which could challenge an invading army.

Or a locally formed tyranny.

[Art.] 2-a. [The Bearing of Arms.] All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property and the state.

[Art.] 10. [Right of Revolution.] Government being instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security, of the whole community, and not for the private interest or emolument of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, whenever the ends of government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the people may, and of right ought to reform the old, or establish a new government. The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind. June 2, 1784

The founders of New Hampshire realized the important role that citizens have in defending their state, and liberty as set forth in the New Hampshire Constitution.

And that is why civilians legally owned cannons, warships, and military weapons such as crew served machine guns for much of the history of our great nation.

In the 1800s privately owned ships helped the Union defeat the Confederacy by enforcing a blockade against the Confederacy.

Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution lists issuing letters of marque and reprisal os an enumerated power of Congress.

This power is only meaningful if the public owns ships capable of challenging warships of other nations.

Fake outrage with obvious agenda. These last two mass murderers were so psychotic that they would employ any method to slaughter people besides guns like, knife, bomb, car/truck, poison etc. There isn’t a gun problem, it’s a subhuman people problem with mental illness in both. Mr. Sex addiction belonged in a psyche ward and the islamotard never should have been allowed in to the country.

From article: “ Start by writing an assault-weapon ban that focuses on firepower — rate of fire, muzzle velocity, and so on.”

Muzzle velocity? So what is the muzzle velocity threshold for an “assault weapon?” Does that mean whether it is an “assault weapon” or not is dependent on what kind of ammo is loaded at any given time? Does that mean a Remington 700 chambered in .270 Win might be an “assault weapon,” but an AR-15 chambered in .300 BLK and loaded with 200gr subs isn’t?

This guy has as much business opining about gun laws as I do about tampon laws.

Even United States v. Miller, the case the left loves to cite, agrees with you there. The Second Amendment did not protect the right to keep and bear a sawed-off shotgun because it was not “ ordinary military equipment.” But an M4 or M240B certainly are.

Rate of fire? Do different semi-auto guns have different rates of fire? LOL

President Joe Biden called Tuesday for Congress to move immediately to “ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.” Damn, that's brilliant! I can't believe no one has thought of that before. Thank God for Biden's stewardship of this nation. (Do I really need a /s?)

I’m an old fart. I worked in LE. I’ve never been shot. The guns are not the problem. It’s the scum they let in this country combined with those scum they won’t keep locked up. THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!

the 2nd was (as well as MOST of the “Constitution”) was about thrusting off imposition to “liberty”. Here we are... 1st amendment... speak your mind (the truth) and you get silenced by the government. So now they are eying the 2nd.... We find ourselves back in the same position as the “Founding Fathers”... with a desire for “liberty”, BUT, CONFRONTED WITH DESPOTISM. They say that history doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme. Well I can certainly see the rhyme.

Except that they were weapons of war. Used extensively in WWI. And if Miller would have shown up to argue his case with his attorney, things may very well have been different today.
