A few summers ago we were clearing out the big pantry in the farmhouse, which is actually a room lined with cabinets. It has been collecting stuff since the place was built in 1830. We found these tiny tins. Hmmmm? Mom said they’re for “try cakes”. Grandma would make little test cakes before baking the big cake to test the heat in the wood cook stove.
