Two politicians are urging the president to follow California's lead and set a date when people will no longer be allowed to buy new gasoline-powered vehicles.
The shift to electric vehicles is underway, but California's two U.S. senators are looking to expedite it: according to a report from the Reuters news service, the two senators are pressing President Biden to set a date by which new gasoline-powered vehicles will no longer be sold in the U.S. Last fall, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order banning the sale of new gas-powered vehicles beginning in 2035.
enators Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla sent the letter to President Biden today, asking the president to follow California’s lead on the transition to electric vehicles, Reuters reported. Biden hasn't said that he will commit to any timeline for a sales ban of gas-powered vehicles, but his campaign site during the Democratic primary did say he aimed to develop "rigorous new fuel-economy standards aimed at ensuring 100 percent of new sales for light- and medium-duty vehicles will be electrified." By lacking a timeline for that goal, Biden was in the minority of those in the Democratic primary.

This isn’t going anywhere folks, the Left is overreaching as usual. Even liberals aren’t going to give up their cars.
In case you didn’t notice, we live in idiot nation.
I’m amazed at folks who embrace the car manufacturers owned by the government (GM/Chrysler) deleting our options.
It’s just not that we will lose our freedom to be mobile. We will lose our ability to produce goods and services AND FARM PUR LAND. Ever seen an electric harvester? Or plow? Or bush hog? Yeah...
If I was Biden (and I’m not because I don’t fall and I don’t hide in the basement), I’d say gas autos will be banned the day after earth gets burned by the sun... (Which will be about 1 quadrillion years from now) 😀
You will have to show your papers in order to board trains, planes, and cabs between towns and states.

*cough* covid passports *cough*
Or have a COE like in Singapore, costing more than a new vehicle itself. The unwashed masses, it’s the bus or train for you. Oh wait, that only works if you have a functional public transportation system to begin with.
Remember in early 2019, busses didn’t run in Seattle/ King County for a few weeks after a winter storm.
Just as idiotic as forcing people to bike to work... especially in the winter. A 30 mile car commute becomes an 2 to 3 hours-long commute both ways.
Absurd??
You bet. Perhaps what needs to occur is reaching an electrical capacity threshold where these idiots must make a decision whether to keep the lights on or charge their grocery-getters for the night.
All this hoopla over EV’s and no discussion about increasing electrical generation capacity or the pollution consequences of manufacturing all those millions upon millions (billions) of vehicle batteries. From what I’ve read these car batteries are very large, heavy and very expensive. I imagine recharge cycles will vary too.
AND - not counting the cost of building the infrastructure to charge these things while on the go. There would need to be a charging station on every corner to replace gasoline.
Stupid ideas from short sighted people.
Brilliant Light Power’s SunCell (tm) device ought to be suitable and refined enough by then for use in a vehicle as a power source, either via a hot gas working a turbine or via direct electrical generation using MHD (implemented by Magneto Hydro Dynamic techniques by then), so I’m not worried, but outright ‘banning’ by a state or governor outside of market-driven forces is just WRONG!

Absolutely out of their freakin’ minds! No non-gas car is really developed to the extent where it could totally replace a gas car with impunity.
She's awful but think of who might replace her. It's California, ya' know.
Well, in fairness, DC is already there. And if someone on the beltway is in a fender bender or gets a flat tire, it's longer than that.
You have to remember that the two Senators ClownCar and Grabbin Nuisance don’t have to deal with transportation the way the peasants do.
Either the fix was still there in Georgia and the senatorial elections were stolen, or the good people of Georgia decided of their own accord that there wasn't a dimes worth of difference between Dems and RINOs.

I remember the 405 all too well...
But at least you are in a vehicle, not stupidly exposed to the elements like the idiots I used to see riding the shoulder of the CO-119 between Longmont and Boulder in all types of weather. Dems want us all to bike to work, take public transportation or walk.
Instead we're talking delirium.
“The vast majority of Georgians never heard the name Lin Wood or any of the other rightwingers who asked Georgians to stay home and not vote for RINOs.”
They didn’t have to hear Lin Wood’s name, they all saw his ads, particularly on Facebook, telling them not to vote.
Enough of them listened, and I guess many people here are good with the results of that.
Like it or not, he was VERY EFFECTIVE, even more effective than Trump, who actually wanted to PREVENT Shumer from running the Senate.
Not much of a problem if your plan is to eliminate have the population and force the remaining population to live crammed in the cities.
Darn autocorrect. That is half.
