From what I’ve observed, an 8 yr old battery car is worthless because it’s not economical to replace the battery pack, while an 8 year old gas car is not even to its half life yet.

Not completely worthless.

That 8 year old car battery will yield 800-1000 .38 caliber bullets.

Oh you said battery car, not car battery.
Can’t wait for them to treat EV batteries like toxic waste.

Good point, but I'd caution you about something. When you say "It's not economical to do X," keep in mind that this often changes over time.

At one time it wasn't economical to drive across the U.S. because you needed to bring your own gasoline or diesel fuel with you. That sure changed very quickly, didn't it!

I was wondering about that. How much does it cost to replace the drive battery for, say, a Toyota Prius? I wonder what percentage of owners choose to spend the money to replace the battery vs. those who just rely on the gas backup engine?

I wonder too if they remove the drive battery to save the weight? That may not be cheap either with probably a hefty disposal fee.

In all fairness though, an 8 yr. old gasoline car is approaching a point where the transmission fluid needs to be changed and the timing belt needs to be replaced if maximum life is going to be achieved. I'd estimate these two service to be between $500-$1000.

I’m driving a 23 yr old Pontiac FireBird. It passes inspection easily. Runs like a raped ape and can go 0-60 faster than the factory spec when new. When I went to Washington last Jan it did the 300 miles @ 70/85 mph, never lower, and got 30.50 mpg.

We drive our gasoline-powered cars for years and years. Most every car we’ve ever owned racked up over 200,000 miles. My Honda Element had 309,000 when I sold it. (Gosh, I miss that car / truck/ whatever...)

I have absolutely no interest in electric-powered vehicles. None. They won’t last as long as our old dinosaurs.

And if that makes me a dinosaur, so be it.

F150 is 14 years old and been through 2 sets of tires but nothing has gone wrong and I expect to get at least 10 more years. Every car I have ever owned I have had for more than 10 years so to me having to change batteries every 10 years sucks.

There is the problem of battery disposal which I have read is a problem.
