To anyone that complains about using a crossbow because it’s not “real” hunting, I show them a rifle. If you also use this, then shut up.
Bow hunting in general is great. So is gun hunting. It’s all great.
I’ve met countless hunters young and old who can’t use a compound bow anymore because it blew out their shoulder.
You need a somewhat level playing field during the bow season. This ain’t it.
Exactly. Bow hunting also opens up opportunities for disabled people to hunt more too, and easy to use but effective bows are a necessity because many times a disabled person can’t trudge through miles of woods like a healthy person can do, but there is no reason why they should be barred from hunting just because of that limitation. Taking a deer quickly and effectively should be every hunter’s goal, and using tools that can do this with the greatest accuracy is a good thing, not a bad thing. Home made bows like Indians used weren’t exactly the most accurate weapons around, and often the arrow wouldn’t hit exactly where it shoi, should, for a good clean harvest. Modern crossbows allow for much more accurate placement, and also allow disabled to be able to arm the bow easier tha. Traditional compound bows, and give the disabled person an extra season to be able to enjoy life out hunting. Disabled doesn’t mean incapacitated, it simply means not able to do as much as able bodied folks can. Crossbows open up a whole nother venue for enjoyment for many.
My take: it’s no longer a bow when it uses fin stabilized discarding sabots.
Most states that allow crossbows have special “primitive” weapon seasons before regular rifle seasons. My state has bow season (no crossbows or fancy sights allowed) before rifle.
The reason why people are complaining is because these type crossbows no longer fall into the “primitive” category. They shouldn’t be given a head start over rifle season.
