Most states that allow crossbows have special “primitive” weapon seasons before regular rifle seasons. My state has bow season (no crossbows or fancy sights allowed) before rifle.
The reason why people are complaining is because these type crossbows no longer fall into the “primitive” category. They shouldn’t be given a head start over rifle season.
A couple of decades ago the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission added crossbows as legal archery tackle for deer.
The bow hunters griped for several years till the Commission announced that crossbow harvests were minimal and not even a factor in deer management so no reason to restrict them.
