I suspect your neighbor’s story accounts for the fact that we have supposedly magically had almost no cases of the flu in this country this year. It is quite possible to have both the flu and the cold (Covid) at the same time, since they are two different viruses.
In most cases, they never tested or recorded statistics for the presence of the flu virus, and were only interested in the cold virus (Covid). The symptoms are the same, and the opportunistic infections (pneumonia) are the same. Probably a great many people had both and actually died of the effects of the flu but simply weren’t tested or recorded...this is the only thing that could explain the magical disappearance of the flu this year.
Seasonal flu accounts for an average of 36,000 deaths per year. What killed the other 515,000?
Everywhere I go, gas station, grocery store, etc, they offer me the flu shot so I’d been wondering if I should get it with efficacy at best 50%, so I was glad to hear this year flu is almost none existent. Besides, the wife got the flu shot and I didn’t in the 2019 season and by Jan ‘20 we both caught the flu. She was so mad!
