I read numerous falsehoods in Dr. Jim Meehan’s commentary. I will only do one: “Masks only cover the mouth and nose. They do not protect the eyes.” The purpose of the mask is to protect others by blocking the droplets you emit. In that case, you do not need to protect your eyes because they don’t emit the virus. My deception meter was pegging.

This is what was said about Dr. Jim Meehan, who has a lawsuit against Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, the Tulsa Department of Health, Tulsa Health Department Executive Director Bruce Dart and the entire Tulsa City Council over a mask mandate that was enacted this summer:

“An ophthalmologist paraded a series of internet conspiracy theories and unproven health claims before state lawmakers at a hearing at the Oklahoma Capitol this week — including that masks are ineffective at slowing the spread of the virus and that people of color need more vitamin D in their diets to prevent them from contracting COVID-19.”

“State Rep. Sean Roberts, R-Hominy, who chairs the House of Representatives’ public health committee, invited two doctors who are vocal supporters of the anti-vaccine movement to speak at an informational hearing on Oklahoma’s response to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday, September 17, 2020:

Instead of an epidemiologist or virologist, State Rep. Sean Roberts, R-Hominy, who chairs the House of Representatives’ public health committee, invited two doctors who are vocal supporters of the anti-vaccine movement to speak at an informational hearing on Oklahoma’s response to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday. “Medical masks won’t work— there’s no sense in using them,” Tulsa ophthalmologist and blogger Dr. Jim Meehan told state lawmakers at the hearing.”

The latest science endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control indicates that wearing face mask helps prevent the spread of COVID-19:

How does an eye doctor know anything about the electrostatic filtration properties of a mask?

Really? You’re going with a study the CDC is promoting based on two hair stylists?

I am not too interested in what the CDC says about anything.

When they come out with guidance on gun control (like the AAP does), will you be endorsing that as well?

My own wellness MD does not recommend masks, distancing, lockdowns or vaccines for this scamdemic. I’ve followed his advice for 20 years. Not about to listen to CDC bureaucrats on anything.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you recall the scandal when the CDC failed to follow it's own protocols and developed millions of Covid masks that were contaminated? I know I do! It was in the New York Times, of all places!
How about when Trump took over collection of Covid-19 statistics because the CDC basically wasn't checking them for accuracy and were therefore misreporting.
The only reason the CDC has any reputation at all is the MSM falsely promotes them as the gold standard because they are controlled. That's why all dissenting opinion must be punished - because those who dissent are not controlled.
Do you recall ever living in a time in history where doctors could lose their jobs for stating their medical opinion on Youtube or Twitter? I don't!
Masks are not safe or effective
And what about making healthy people without symptoms wear masks? Did you see what Fauci said about that?
The CDC does not represent the best interests of the nation or my immediate family. I NEVER take advice from this politically driven office. They do not speak for me or my family & until they are about disease elimination instead of “control” I will NEVER trust anything thing they release or ANYONE who promotes their propaganda as fact.
I agree with your post. There are falsehoods in the commentary.
The purpose of the mask is to protect others by blocking the droplets you emit.
There is no definitive study that shows this. We are all conditioned to believe this. It seems reasonable. Surgeons wear them for infection control. So they must be good.
According to this:
"Unmasking the surgeons: the evidence base behind the use of facemasks in surgery"
J R Soc Med. 2015 Jun; 108(6): 223–228.
doi: 10.1177/0141076815583167
There is not much scientific evidence behind them, it's mostly tradition.
There is also this abstract that indicates NO statistical difference in post surgical wound infections in surgeries performed with masks or without masks:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1853618
"Postoperative wound infections and surgical face masks: a controlled study"
World J Surg . May-Jun 1991;15(3):383-7; discussion 387-8.
doi: 10.1007/BF01658736
The main findings from the abstract: "After 1,537 operations performed with face masks, 73 (4.7%) wound infections were recorded and, after 1,551 operations performed without face masks, 55 (3.5%) infections occurred. This difference was not statistically significant (p greater than 0.05)..."
Scientific research done in almost any country except the duplicitous USA has found that masks are ineffective. Read the scientific research, NOT the news or politicians needs.
I’m happy for you that you believe in the magical properties of masks. My MIL did too. Past tenses is purposeful as she died of covid.
Vitamins D deficiency is an issue with African Americans. It has also been found that covid patients with low vitamins D have worse outcomes.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16549493/
Abstract
Vitamin D insufficiency is more prevalent among African Americans (blacks) than other Americans and, in North America, most young, healthy blacks do not achieve optimal 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations at any time of year. This is primarily due to the fact that pigmentation reduces vitamin D production in the skin.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32927735/ Our study demonstrates an association between VitD deficiency and severity/mortality of COVID-19, highlighting the need for interventional studies on VitD supplementation in SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals.
You ought to spend a few minutes quietly reading this mask study from 1981. Then contemplate.
