You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
From The Arkansas Gazette
I must admit, this one had me stumped, but looking back it should have been easy. Still, I’m chalking this one down as a hard one.
6 minutes good
4 minutes excellent

Solution to previous puzzle (select the yellow text with your cursor to read):
INTOLERANCE IS A FORM OF EGOTISM, AND TO CONDEMN EGOTISM INTOLERANTLY IS TO SHARE IT. —GEORGE SANTAYANA
Correct guess at author’s last name led to completing in 1 min. 20 sec.
I missed that. THe author has been represented a few times, and I should have recognized the person, but I didn’t. I ruled out Lady Gaga.
I gave up after 25 minutes and cheated, if it makes you feel better. Author’s last name is the best clue.
I’m not nearly as good at this as a lot of you guys; sometimes if I am stumped I will leave Hal’s CH and click back in the thread to see responses that give a subtle clue; I had already looked at the unusual nature of the last name but your clue told me it was indispensable to solve that last name, so I did, and bang! solved
I was stumped too.
Whale carcass washed up at popular South African beach.
Ok, I had to think about it, but I get it.
You said the clues must be tangential....
It stumped me too. I do not remember the last time I could not solve a puzzle. It has been years. Maybe I am just getting old. Hahahah
I know I still have 7 hours left of today.
I can’t get past the author’s name being “Dodo”
The second and thirteenth word are what I’m concentrating on. I’m sure there’s an easier way.

Good job
What? that I made it before midnight and turning into a pumpkin?
It was a toughly. You adapted, you persevered, you overcame.
