Pro sports lost an incredible amount of money last year, with each league losing revenue in every area from fan support to sponsorship.
According to Forbes, to date, the pro sports leagues have lost a combined $14.1 billion since the world ground to a halt just over a year ago.
Not only did the leagues lose billions of dollars in revenue, but the teams themselves also lost a percentage of what they are worth, the magazine added.
“Even the value of sports teams, one of the most reliable long-term investments for billionaires, began to creak from the strain. NHL franchise values fell 2% on average, according to a Forbes analysis published in December, the first drop in two decades. NBA values rose just 4% on average, the smallest increase since 2010,” Forbes wrote.
Unsurprisingly, the players also took a hit to their wallets. Forbes also noted that total earnings for the nation’s highest-paid athletes fell for the first time since 2016.
The magazine found that some of the top earners lost millions over what they earned in 2019. Boxer Canelo Alvarez’s earnings are down $57 million. Baseball’s Clayton Kershaw lost $3.5 million. Basketball players Chris Paul and Joel Embiid lost $6.8 million and $4.9 million respectively. And golf great Phil Michelson lost $11.6 million over 2019.
Of course, one of the biggest losses that pro sports suffered in 2020 was the loss of ticket sales as games were canceled and stadiums either banned the fans or only opened at far reduced capacities.

And Joe Biden won the election
I had been watching Pro Football since 1972, nearly fanatically, and I just cannot watch anymore. For me, I never watched any other sport except hockey, and once I stopped playing, I lost interest in that too.
The league and it’s players see fit to treat me with contempt, as they arrogantly held their hands out feeling fully confident that people like me would be unable to reject them.
Fills me with cold anger.
Of all the things I despise about the Left, and there are many, the one I take most personally is their deliberate destruction of sports in every aspect.
I can certainly live without them, but it has meant that the large social group I have congregated with for the last 27 years is unavailable to me now. We had an excuse to get together, laugh, drink, yell like kids, and have a great time. Now, it isn’t happening. And for me, won’t.
And that fills me with a lot of bitter anger.
The only satisfaction I get out of it is that they are cutting their own throats, but don’t realize it yet. So there is that.
Pakistani are very passionate about cricket too, it's almost like war when they compete against India in it.
I must admit I am watching a lot of old NFL Films and old broadcasts to remember the good old days.
Today’s NFL bears little resemblance to it.
Let them eat “wokeness”
I saw the video of Ben Davidson clocking Joe Namath, where Namath ended up on his knees, arms by his side, and blood streaming down his face.
I will say, Namath didn’t get enough credit for his toughness.
And you are right. The league today is different. I don’t have a problem with getting rid of the head-hunting, that was crazy. But it is sanitized.
First time in my life, I have not watched any sport for the whole year!
I plan to do repeat this coming year.
Heck, I may never see any sport in my life.
My life is a lot better. I have more time for FR!
They deserve it. If they hadn’t caved, the hoax would have gone nowhere.
I used to love listening to the late Art Donovan tell stories about his playing days.
My favorite Donovan story was when he sacked Bobby Layne, and he could smell the alcohol on him, “Boy you must have had a heck of a night last night, Bobby.” And Bobby responded, “I had a few at halftime.”
Good deal. Here is hoping the next season is even worse.
Good.
Too late. The players and owners still believe the fans will eventually forget. They are just gonna hang on. They deserve to fail.
Grown Men in tights,
Do Absolutely nothing
For Me.
True for all sports. So many other things to do.
Color me unimpressed.
Color me unimpressed.
Fundamentally Europeans play a better game. Of course Americans are more talented but at the same time, it is more boring. NBA stars are all about shooting threes or dunking the ball. In EuroLeague, you actually see ball movement and defense.

I watch the PBA. Philippines Basketball Association.
Getting ruined by too many US imports (some players are not even Fil-Am).
It’s always nice to go to sleep just after reading great news, isn’t it? Sweet dreams are assured.
Who am I to disagree.
