"Mary Chesnut’s Diary, Edited by Isabella D. Martin and Myrta Lockett Avary"

I see that Mary Chesnut's diary began on February 28, so this is among her first entries.
I also see where she will move with her husband to Montgomery, Richmond and Charleston -- am guessing this entry is from... Montgomery...?

"Here" meaning in Montgomery, to a Confederate military position, right?

The Diary begins on Nov. 8, 1860, from Charleston

On February 19 she was in Montgomery. She will be back in Charleston on March 26. On April 20 she will be in Camden, S.C. And so on.

If you want a list of all her entries to date they are posted in the Harper’s Weekly threads as follows:

11/8/60
12/10
12/21
12/27
2/19/61
2/25
2/28
3/1
3/3
3/4
3/5
3/8
3/10

I again remind readers that Mary Chesnut worked up the diary some years after the war from notes she had written during the events described. She added embellishments added with the benefit of hindsight.

I don’t fault her for the creativity. Times were hard for former Confederate aristocrats and she needed to enhance the commercial value of her story.
