WILMINGTON, Del. – A Newark man was sentenced by the Honorable Colm F. Connolly, U.S. District Judge, today to 31 months in federal prison for possessing machinegun conversion devices.
According to court documents, law enforcement searched the residence of Nathan Matthews, 42, in August 2019. In an unlocked safe, they found a homemade 9 mm handgun, ammunition, and two machinegun conversion devices. A machinegun conversion device, or fully-automatic conversion device, sometimes referred to as a “Glock switch,” alters a firearm so that pulling the trigger once causes multiple bullets to fire. It is classified as a machinegun under the National Firearms Act and Gun Control Act.
By pleading guilty in federal court, Mr. Matthews also resolved charges against him in Harford County, Maryland. In May 2018, Mr. Matthews was arrested in Maryland for possession of a different homemade pistol, a different machinegun conversion device, and ammunition.
David C. Weiss, U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware stated, “Illegal firearms put our communities at risk. For those individuals who choose to circumvent firearm manufacturing regulations to create homemade handguns, be forewarned that my office will work tirelessly with our federal and local law enforcement partners to hold you accountable for your illegal conduct.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ruth Mandelbaum led the prosecution of this case. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Castle County Police Department.

The National Firearms Act and Gun Control Act came into being in 1934.
It was a complete and total violation of the second amendment.

Most likely. They’re everywhere. I even get private message such as “let’s attack DC next week” (more or less). I just chuckled. I remember in Los Angeles the LAPD would send young-looking pigs into the high schools to ‘score’ weed. But they never succeeded, as the students had them figured out in 5 minutes. LOL.
Let’s see: the fed’s wiped out a family at Ruby Ridge over the potential sale of a sawed off shot gun and this guy just gets 31 months in prison?

As I heard the story, some factory in China churned out several containers full of these switches that were made for airsoft guns. Someone figured out that they could be dropped into a Glock 17 and, presto chango, you've got a Glock 18. BATFE was quietly running around to retailers scooping them up and grabbing sales receipts.
And the moral of the story is, if you ever get a letter from BATFE asking you to turn in something you bought, you should hand it over because they will come looking for it.
Was thus the “first shot over the bow” toward the gun community?
I guess they should pay attention.
D.C. Weiss, U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, seems to like lumping “Illegal firearms” and “homemade handguns” together. Maybe someone should explain that there’s a difference.
Though there should be no “illegal” firearms.

anyone can fill out the paperwork and make their own NFA firearm or NFA accessory, just make sure you have the registration before you actually make it.
And this statement right here is EXACTLY how we've lost so much of our Rights to date...
It doesn't matter that the law itself violates the Constitution.
It doesn't matter that any "authorities" enforcing this illegal law are also violating OTHER laws, most of which are FELONIES.
Nope. Capitulate because the men with government guns will kill you if you don't turn your belly to the sky and beg for mercy.

The communities of gun owners are at risk from the feds.
