When does NASCAR allow electric vehicles?
thought bubble ^ | 3/5/2021 | Ed D

Instead of a refuel, it's a battery pack change depending on race length.

No noise.

No shifting.

Super fast.

Just a random Friday thought.

Forget the politics, just talking about the sport and engineering.

“Sounded like a pack of P-51 Mustangs roaring by overhead!”

Maybe that Merlin engine is too heavy for a race car.

“Yes, they were and more dangerous due to turbine lag.”

Gotta blame the drivers for those accidents.

“given speed and voltage, due to back emf issue.”

Jack up the voltage, change the motor-to-wheels ratio.

“What’s NASCAR’s attitude toward electric and turbine cars?”

Look at NASCAR specs! Uniformity! The are running Mustangs, Camaros and Camrys but all are built to the same specs from the ground up.

When they determine how to hang the charging cables in a non-offensive manner...

“At the Tesla top end, the 1100-hp Plaid+ is targeting a 520-mile range, a zero-to-60-mph time of less than two seconds,”

And a 200+ mph top end.

Didn’t think of that. I knew that. Ridiculous. Supposed to be a test of drivers’s skills, not the cars, correct? I’m an amateur mechanic. Hurts my feelings.

Now if they can find a way to make a tire last 600 miles
there will no need for a pit stop.

I was thinking the horse racing model, trifectas, win, place, show.

Hey, instead of one long race, how about 7 shorter races.

Simple......

When an electric vehicle can run flat out for 500 miles at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

They already can!

If you are saying without refueling, how many miles will your car go at 100 mph without refueling?

How does one make an electric re fueling in a <1 minute pit stop?

Electric vehicles lack stamina.

I thought of drag racing. A while back a Japanese electric vehicle bested a souped up Toyota. But against a fuel dragster I doubt if an electric could compete.

Actually a good crew can make the car. Sometimes you will see a car not start with bad performance come into the pit and become competitive. Lots of suspension tweaks can be made.

Fuel and tire management are major components.

Each track is different. Setting up for that track is both a science and an art.

Tesla is advertising 520 mile range. That is more than most ICE cars.

Boy that sounds exciting for the fans!

It’s all about the driver-heroes, isn’t it? There are no technical minds any more.
