A KGO report has found that in recent weeks multiple puppies in San Francisco were hospitalized after ingesting marijuana, opioids and other drugs found at Lafayette Park.
Fortunately, they’ve all recovered — but it poses a question of how residuals of those types of drugs are left wantonly at the park.
One pup named Georgia was sickened by an edible given to her by a stranger at the park. She was put on an IV and released later that day.
“Someone I'm not familiar with gave her a treat,” he told KGO. “This was noon. By 3 or 4, she was completely almost catatonic," Mandell told the station.
A miniature pinscher dog named Max, the outlet reported, also ingested cannabis left nearby outside the Cow Hollow library. He is still recovering from a bout of pneumonia contracted after the incident.
In another incident, a maltipoo named Oliver inadvertently consumed a slew of drugs, including methadone and amphetamines, while scurrying around a grassy patch at the park and had to be taken to an ER veterinarian.
His owner, Camille Perez, was stunned that those types of drugs were available at the park.
“It was really scary. He made it through though,” she said to KGO. “The possibility of such heavy-duty drugs never entered my mind.”
Deb Campbell, a representative for San Francisco Animal Care and Control, told SFGATE that it is likely that dogs ingest feces contaminated with drugs. "This isn’t a recent trend – it’s been happening for years," she said. "This happens all over the City, not just Lafayette Park."

I’ll bet the big dogs liked it.
So, I’m assuming that the drug-contaminated feces that these dogs are eating is human feces. Sounds like a really nice park. And how high do you have to get to poop enough THC to make a dog sick?
It’s well known for a long time that San Francisco is full of sick puppies. This story is just about one variety of the sickness.

It looks like these were loose dogs. It’s easy to keep a dog on leash from eating stuff they find or from letting strangers give them treats.
PS - and if you use the park as your dogs toilet, pick up after them.
If the junkies find out feces is contaminated with residual opiates and other dope it might go a long way towards cleaning up the streets.
I could be wrong, but isn’t Lafayette Park just a stone’s throw from Nancy Pelosi’s residence?

Nah, she’s up by Alta Plaza park. Lafayette is the one of the eastern side of Pacific Heights.
