US Suspends Scotch Whisky Tariffs For 4 Months

It’s been a day of good news for the Scotch whisky industry.

Following the announcement that the U.K. government wouldn’t raise taxes on alcohol, the U.S. has announced that it is suspending tariffs for four months on a number of goods produced in the U.K., including single malt Scotch whisky.

The Scotch whisky industry had lost £500 million ($700 million) in business from the tariffs and exports had plunged to a 10-year low, so understandably this is a big relief for the industry.

That explains why Scotch has increased in price so much in the past two years.

It’s been decades since I drank a glass of Scotch.
Nothing against it, but that just isn’t in my Top Three favorite alcohols. I almost can’t recall the taste, except that it was somewhat like Tequila, but with a mild Hickory flavor. Gin tastes like Christmas Trees, but w/o the lights.

That to me means you have to endure the drink on a regular basis until one day you say: "Hey this isn't half bad"

My son is a Laguvalin man. Oban is as close as I want to get.

The Kennedy family holds almost all of the import licenses for Scotch. Joe Kennedy bought them up when Prohibition started.
