Nasty doesn’t quite cover it. Lyme disease can be downright debilitating for some. The fatigue and pain can become so severe that sufferers become suicidal. Treatment has improved over the years, but there’s no substitute for prevention.
I was fine but one of the guys in the office wound up crippled so bad, he had to stop working.
It was an eye-opener.
Yes, it can be really bad. I look forward to this as an option as I pick them off at least once or twice a year.
I’ve read that its very hard to diagnose also. Good to here there is a vaccine.
I live a little SW of Boston.
The wooden lot behind my house is LOADED with ticks.
Made the mistake of going back there 2 summers ago to clean up a bit.
Even a few days later i would still find one of those nasty bloodsuckers stuck on me somewhere..The woman next door caught the Lime a while back and i believe it ended up ruining her life.
Been that way around here for years now.
Don’t remember ever getting infested with ticks when i was a kid though.
i wonder what happened..
2023, Trump isn't around to push it :)
Worth remembering there was a human Lyme vaccine in the late 90s, but was pulled from the market after 3 years due to the small market and "side-effects", aka lawyers. Fortunately my dogs are able to keep their vaccinations up, they have vets but no lawyers. If I recall I got two of the three shots. There was a second vaccine approved as well, but never brought to market.
Me neither maybe the truck sprayers worked back then.
There is already a vaccine for Lyme disease but it was withdrawn from the market about 20 years ago due to it not being profitable for the manufacturer.
That’s a vaccine I’d be willing to line up for. In the meantime, I’ll keep dabbing on the rose geranium oil.
And relatively easy to treat with antibiotics in it's early stage. I've done antibiotics several times after particularly bad spider/insect bites even though the infection/rash wasn't Lyme typical
Haven’t seen those trucks in quite a while now..
Yeah, I have a friend who was recently diagnosed. He has no idea how he got it or how long he’s had it but it’s really caused him lot of grief. Took a long time to diagnose as they just kept treating the symptoms - he’s lived his whole life in California so they don’t really suspect it out here.
Well, DDT was banned...Rachel Carson, Silent Spring, ...
Had lyme disease a few years back and it caused heart palpitations so bad that I passed out driving. Recovered a few seconds later and pulled over where I passed out again on the wheel.
Thank goodness I caught it early and was treated with strong meds and it was cleared up. Don’t catch it early and it’s with you for life.
My buddy had partial paralysis from it. Doctor didn’t know what it was and when I told him it could be Lyme disease and he should be tested for it the doctor went ballistic asking where my medical degree was. In the end my friend demanded it and it was Lyme. He still owes me a steak dinner. He fully recovered.
Various doctors said my CIDP was in their mind caused by Lyme disease. Multiple tests later and no titer for it. So they have no clue.
Ticks are nasty buggers.

Maybe I’m confusing it, but I think that other countries have either the vaccine or the treatment or both available.
But not worth the (lawsuit) risk of putting it on the market here.
Excellent news, but misleading title...
New Vaccine Developed By Massachusetts’ Doctor May Prevent Lyme Disease In Humans
Long overdue... Have a wonderful CT niece who suffered the ravages of the disease since the 1960's when doctors used to diagnose it as dozens of other diseases...
