Vince Gill Declares Country Isn’t ‘Conservative’ Or For ‘White America’ After Morgan Wallen Scandal

Country legend Vince Gill gave an interview about racism and debuted a new song in the wake of Morgan Wallen's n-word scandal.

Earlier this month country music star Morgan Wallen found himself in hot water for dropping the N-word on camera. Now, legendary singer and songwriter Vince Gill is speaking out about the Morgan Wallen scandal and sharing his views on racism and country music.

Vince Gill Debuts New Song About Racism In America The Country Music Hall of Famer sat down with “CBS This Morning” for a “Unifying America” segment yesterday.

Before we dive into Vince Gill’s personal commentary on “racism” and “cultural appropriation,” you need to give his new song “March On, March On” a listen. The Grand Ole Opry star debuted the song during his segment.

Gill says he wrote the song about the history of racism in America and “the ongoing fight against” it.

You can watch Vince Gill perform his new song “March On, March On” in the tweeted video below.

Vince Gill Talks About Conservatives And Morgan Wallen N-Word Scandal

In the “CBS This Morning” interview, Gill said that country music has a reputation of being only for conservatives, and being unwelcome to people with other beliefs.

“Most people perceive that country music is extremely conservative and I’m not sure if that’s true,” Gill explained. “Maybe the audience might be predominantly conservative, but I don’t know that the artistry is; that the community is so there’s a rub in there.”

Gill, 63, later described the Wallen controversy as “disappointing” because it will perpetuate negative stereotypes about country music.

“It was just sad and disappointing because I knew that everyone was going to massacre country music,” he said.

“White America, when they make the argument ‘I hear it in rap music all the time’… have you not been paying attention to the last 300 or 400 years how that word has been used by the white community?” Gill added. “It’s derogatory, dismissive and hurtful. It doesn’t have a place.”

Gill also touched on the uphill battle that he feels women in country music face.

“Women in country music could make the same claim, to some degree, that Black artists could. That they haven’t been made to feel welcome,” he said. “I don’t know. I wish I knew, you know, because I’m someone that adores what they do and I think we would be better for it.”

Morgan Wallen’s N-Word Scandal Wallen was caught on camera by a neighbor earlier this month saying the n-word after returning home from a drunken night out. Video of the incident was published for all the world to see in a TMZ exclusive.

The 27-year-old singer immediately issued a apology in the hopes of doing damage control.

“I’m embarrassed and sorry,” he said. “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

The damage, however, was already done.

Since the scandal broke, Wallen has been dropped by his record label, banned from many radio stations, and disqualified from the 2021 ACM Awards.

A PR expert called his outburst “lethally stupid” and predicted the rising star will face a two-year career setback.

Country music may not only be for conservatives, but it is the one branch of the entertainment world that accepts conservatives at all.

More and more stars are toeing the cancel culture line. Big names like Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, and now you can add Vince Gill to that list.

It would be a shame if country music goes full woke, and starts submitting to the left at every turn just like every other part of the entertainment world does.

Kaci Musgrave is way left. Too bad she has to insult her fans with derogatory labels. Guess she has so many she won’t miss Conservatives.

Sorry Vince we’re fed up hearing about ‘racism this, racism that, there’s a racist behind every tree. Question for ya Vince. Who are these modern day racists and in what ways do they promote it? Save for a few whacked out skinheads on the white side where’s the national issue?

Country Is
Tom T Hall

Country is sittin’ on the back porch
Listen to the whippoorwills late in the day
And country is mindin’ your business
Helpin’ a stranger if he comes your way
Country is livin’ in the city
Knowin’ your people, knowin’ your kind
Country is what you make it
Country is all in your mind
Country is workin’ for a living
Thinkin’ your own thoughts, lovin’ your town
Country is teachin’ your children
Find out what’s right and stand your ground
And country is a havin’ the good time
Listen to the music singing your part
Country is walkin’ in the moonlight
Country is all in your heart

___

The audience and the community haven’t changed but the “artistry” sure has. That’s why I’m stuck on the good old, traditional country music. The new stuff has strayed far out of the country corral.

Just because you make bad rock with a fiddle, it doesn’t make it country.

I liked Vince Gill’s singing and playing. Very talented.

This spoils it for me. Maybe I should have listened to this new song before deciding; just don’t have the inclination after reading the article.

“It’s derogatory, dismissive and hurtful. It doesn’t have a place.”

Yeah, except for a few specific usages, it doesn’t have a place in the rap songs either. But that’s aside from the point - which is to obtain ostensible grounds to cancel someone.
