Coronavirus infection leads to immunity that’s comparable to COVID-19 vaccine, researchers find

Among a group of hundreds of thousands of Americans who tested positive for a SARS-CoV-2 infection, the risk of developing a subsequent infection more than three months later was about 90% lower than for people who had not been previously infected and therefore had no immunity to the virus, according to researchers from the National Cancer Institute.

For the sake of comparison, when the vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna were tested in Phase 3 clinical trials, they reduced the risk of developing COVID-19 by at least 94%.

...

“I think we knew this, that immunity [after natural infection] lasts a long time,” said Dr. Monica Gandhi, an infectious-disease specialist at UC San Francisco who was not involved in the new research.

“I think we knew this, that immunity [after natural infection] lasts a long time,”

Yes, we did.

Did Newsom care? Nope.

"While this study didn’t gauge how long the benefits of a prior infection last beyond 90 days, other lines of evidence suggest it takes a while to wane. For instance, Gandhi pointed to a paper in Science that found that immune cells triggered by SARS-CoV-2 remained in the body for at least eight months."

No duh.

All understandings of immunological science were ignored for Covid.

And now, they let people who had it get vaccinated before people who never had it. It’s treated as if the viral infection doesn’t confer immunity.

A Scientific Breakthrough, thanks mostly to Fauxcy’s genius?

How does he do it?

The numbers for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna will be more believable when they are verified by an independent double blind placebo controlled study.

I have not seen an independent study like this yet, and big pharma has a track record or non-reproducibility that is the cornerstone of science.

Until that time, I will prefer my own natural antibodies after covid.

On another forum I commented about the doctor saying that herd immunity would be achieved when half have had the disease and without any more backstory than that the local progressive nitwit lambasted the guy.

I’m not a statistics guru nor an epidemiologist, but given the limited data I’ve seen I consider the immunity data neither accurate nor precise. The first thing a person in a science course learns is propagation of errors also called significant figures. When I see numbers like 94.5% effective I just have to laugh. Three sig figs? no way. Lucky if they have one.

There have been estimates that up to 100 million people in the US have immunity after having had the disease. Most were asymptomatic or just had mild, brief symptoms.

Like we’re supposed to believe that a vaccine confers better immunity than the actual disease?

Not buying it.

It is astounding how drug peddlers manipulate data...

and how quickly MDs genuflect before them and make the sign of the cross.

Researchers find long-lived immunity to 1918 pandemic virus Aug 19, 2008

Aug 19, 2008 (CIDRAP News) – A study of the blood of older people who survived the 1918 influenza pandemic reveals that antibodies to the strain have lasted a lifetime and can perhaps be engineered to protect future generations against similar strains.

The findings appeared online Aug 17 in Nature. Study collaborators hail from several institutions: Vanderbilt University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Scripps Research Institute.
