I can’t relate. I was 17 during the summer of 71.

Summer of '71 I was stationed in Germany after a tour in beautiful downtown Vietnam.

I did see The Who and Grand Funk Railroad among others at an outdoor concert in Germany that summer, good times.

Was 15.

Family went to PA to visit relatives and two brothers went with Dad on a business trip to TN. They took my brother’s Maverick. He was in the Air Force and had his car there. The car they were supposed to take developed mechanical problems at the last minute.

I on the other hand stayed home so I could take driver’s ed during the summer session. I was turning 16 in the fall and had to have passed driver’s ed to get my license at 16.

NOTHING was more important than that to a boy in those days. Especially one living in the country needing to escape into town and do things.

I remember cheap popsicle knock-offs all summer. I think they were 24 in a box for $1.00. Good except not a fan of the banana flavored ones.

I was 17 and attended basic training that summer then back to school, graduated in june of 72 and was in Nam by the fall.

Sure, I had great memories. I retired in 1994.

Lol! I was 10 in 1971 and had a bike like that!! Bright green with a basket. Lots of fun to be had growing up then.
Yup, I am a boomer. Not sure why that considered a bad thing now.

I had the green Stingray, my brother had the red one. Then came the Krates. Daddy did what he could just to get the Stingrays so we knew not to ask and built some slide on extended front forks out of some old aluminum tent poles. They worked fine until the first jump. Did I mention between all my siblings, we had our own file cabinet down at the Emergency Room?... 🤣

Well I was only 6 years old but it was a great time! I remember the music the most! My older sister listening to GFR and DiscoTex and Hurricane Smith. My biggest worry in 1971 was being a good student in Mrs. Brazil’s first grade class!

Had my first baby in Spring of ‘71. These boys fashions didn’t change much. They look like our son in circa 1980....lol

The summer of 1971.

MCB Twenty Nine Palms, Advanced Electronics Training Bn. Had already been in the Corps for a year...

Was commuting to Palm Springs on weekends, on a 450 Honda. There was a Sweet Young Thing who was spending her summer at her dad's house, there, while he did something with a studio in LA...

I learned my total contempt for Hollywood, through her.

Good Times.

I was six, and learning what “summer” break meant after 1st grade. Little did I know then how glorious the summer months would become in the years ahead. No cell phones, no computers...just the outdoors, friends, pick-up baseball/football, forts...I weep for today’s youth.
