Weekly Garden Thread - February 20-26, 2021
Fenruary 20, 2021 | Diana in Wisconsin/Greeneyes

Posted on 02/20/2021 6:24:26 AM PST by Diana in Wisconsin

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

Glad to be of service!

I have also planted upwards of 100 trees and shrubs so far in my lifetime, too! 21 Rose bushes added last season, alone! :)

Breadseed poppies are supposed to do better planted in cold soil. That’s something I plan to try this year.

YES!!!!

In meteorological terms, though, it is only 8 more days until Spring, since meteorological spring starts on March 1.

What is a slip? Is that just another name for a seedling, or is it a sort of transplant?

Do those things (bottom pic) have any value to people as cookies, because that is sure what they look like. I’m sure the birds will love them.

Bird cookies! Yeah!

Did the Euro model also indicated a bad ice storm for your area before the event petered out? Usually, as far as I know, the Euro model is the most accurate for several days out.

CO2 causes Global Warming. CO2 causes Global Greening. Global Greening slows down Global Warming.

It’s CO2 vs. CO2, baby!

The Euro busted, too.

What is a slip?

A slip is the sprout from an eye. With most potatoes you can plant the eye itself, but with sweet potatoes you have to root the sprout and then plant that.
