I think there were copyright issues with the tunes.
Paul Shanklin was excellent with his parodies. I haven’t heard much from him in a long time. I don’t know if Rush had continued using Paul’s comedies or not. I stopped listening regularly around 2012. My guess is Paul’s work was so closely identified as part of Rush-World, Paul Shanklin may have been shut out of other job opportunities owned by Libs.
My favorite was his Calypso Louie answering the door on Halloween night.
This was his best parody, I think. Brilliant.
Not just parodies, but also any number of update themes.
“You don’t own me” by Klaus Nomi, guy is way out there, but I like his rendition of this, probably because of his german accent
Besides the hilarious "In a Yugo", this was my favorite:
I remember waiting at a light to turn left, when Rush returned from a shameless commercial break and Paul Shanklin began singing “In a Yugo”. I lost it. The Elvis parody was convincing and insanely funny. I made the left turn somehow.
Lots of great memories!
Thanks for posting
I've lost count how many times I've nearly run off the road over the past 25+ years while I was laughing hysterically at something Rush said, or at one of his hilarious parodies, LOL.
Andy Williams - "Born Free" (Rush's animal rights update theme song)
Clarence "Frogman" Henry - "Ain't Got No Home" (Rush's homeless update theme song)
Somewhere in the attic I have a VHS tape of an Elvis impersonator on Rush's early '93 TV show standing in front of Graceland saying, "this is where I used to live until the Clinton taxes; but now I have to live here..." as he crunches over gravel to stand in front of a tiny servants quarters building. Then he is "moved to sing us a song" ....
"Tax me tender, tax me sweet. Never raise my rate.
"You have made my fears complete. Oh where is my rebate?"
"Tax me tender, tax me light. Or all my dreams you kill.
"Oh Slick Willy, I didn't vote for you. And I never will".
And on the radio - likely Shanklin creations:
Liberals in Disguise, with Taxes.
Brother Lib's Traveling Salvation Show
We Kept 3 Ships From Sailing In - Greenpeace Singers.
I'll be home for Christmas, You'll Be Overseas - Clinton serenading the troops he sent to Bosnia.
Wish You a Malcolm Xmas - Spike Lee.
Loved his parodies. In a Yugo‼️
A modern redo of “In a Yugo” would have to be “In a Prius”.
RIP Mac Davis (wrote “In the Ghetto”). RIP Rush Limbaugh.

I did not realize until years later that Spatula City was from a movie.
One of the best parts of radio listening in the earlier days was when the local station didn't sell the ad slot or missed the drop cue and you would hear what the "EIB" was playing to fill the void. It was usually a Shanklin parody.
I miss the "Barnacle Brothers 60 second sale" and "Million Man Math" among many others.
Mostly, I'll just miss hearing Rush...
Sneekin’ in Amareeka
Even got the Mexican accent right in the chorus!
Rush devoted an entire episode of his TV show to Joycelyn Elders clips. My sister came into the room while I was watching it and had to ask "Who is this crazy woman?"
RODNEY KING was driving a Yugo at over 110 MPH on the 210 freeway in Los Angeles when 7 different police departments were chasing him.
I have never figured out how the wheel bearings didn’t give out at those speeds.
