Anyone have knowledge regarding stairlifts?
Vanity ^ | Vanity

I recently found myself in need of a stairlift for a family member. I am looking to purchase a system and install it myself. I began with a little research to educate myself about the different brands. Any recommendations good or bad would be highly appreciative. As well, any tips about unreputable marketers or manufacturers. This is a basic straight one story flight of stairs with landings at top and bottom.

Thank you

Exactly. What we did for my mom. And (depending on the state) will need inspecting.

I see these used all the time for much less money. Look around

Not sure. I don’t know much about them. I stumbled on this link and this is where I began the research. The number for the rep. Is imposed on the video

If you can do the install, check Craigslist in your area. I see them in my area all the time in the $800-1000 range.

Exactly. We had friends who purchased a home and a stairlift was in it, they had to give it away. Plus, from what they said, many insurance companies etc. will pay for them.

Thanks. That was a consideration but safety and warranty were my main concerns.

My folks have one thru the VA.

Brand is Bruno.

Dad passed 2 years ago, but Mom and Sister use it and like it.

Bought a used one from the same company for a significant discount for the basement.

If the Amerglide has a good reputation, that's a good price.

Thanks. Just out of curiosity I may research the used market. And from what I seen, I should be able to do the install.

I have one for my FIL and it’s invaluable. Went with a local company. Unless you are very good I would let the company install for safety reasons. Cost me about 3000$ two years ago

Thank you. I had my own construction business. 40+ years in the business. I figured I could do the install before needing the lift myself in a few years. Lol I’m not far behind.

“$2,023.00”

...that sounds about right. The labor savings is probably $400-$500.

Thanks. I’ve never had a reason before to research them. Cost seemed reasonable and a few favorable recommendations is reassuring. The installation looked easy enogh for a diy project.

Talented people can buy used ones, adapt them, and install them.

I’ve helped a few friends do it for under $1k. It winds up taking hours of my time, and hours of their time. If you include a reasonable labor rate for yourself, and the mechanically inclined friend that helps you, whether they charge you or not, it winds up costing about what a retail lift with professional install costs. A mechanic will charge about $100/hour, just like an electrician or plumber.

Nothing is free unless you’re a freeloader. If you are abusing your friends, you are not their friend.
