I recently found myself in need of a stairlift for a family member. I am looking to purchase a system and install it myself. I began with a little research to educate myself about the different brands. Any recommendations good or bad would be highly appreciative. As well, any tips about unreputable marketers or manufacturers. This is a basic straight one story flight of stairs with landings at top and bottom.
Thank you
If you are in the Northeast I can recommend a very high quality company.
yes got one for my mother in law she used it a half dozen times and died are you local to so cal i still have itcost me almost 8 grand lets make a deal btw god bless you
I would highly appreciate that. And yes, in Michigan
They are extremely heavy and need to be custom measured to your application. I would recommend you pay whatever company you go with the extra $300 or so to install it.
Be cautious.
Power Outage vs Power Shortage.
Big dif when it comes to these things
Look on Craigslist. Once the relative who needed it passes on the people take them out. Some people will even pay you to take them away.
Luckily for you it is straight up. Any turns and cha-ching. I’ve had these installed for clients (I’m a Realtor) and the folks that installed lower cost ones regretted it.
While recovering from hip replacement I did some research, with emphasis on temporary (~2 months), and renting. My crafts room was upstairs and I was down. I decided not to do it because my husband didn’t was against it. So I was trapped on the first floor.
It also could be used a a type of dumbwaiter, to move things up and down stairs even if you’re not riding. There are two remotes, one upstairs and one downstairs.
It is very minimal as far as being invasive to the stairway. It doesn’t connect to a wall, but to some of the stairs.
Insurance (Medicare) would not have covered it. The cost seemed high, but I didn’t really shop around and only called one local vendor.
So that’s my input. Don’t know if it helps.
I know Led Zeppelin wrote a song about them...
Cosmetics ?
Cellar/garage to 1st floor vs 1st floor to 2nd floor.
Makes a dif, cellar up to main living space, pretty dont matter, functionality does.
Friends had the basics for years, cellar up, 2 generations used it, not pretty but worked great.
They had a generator in the NE
Not sure who installed as they were wealthy ?
If you can afford it, consider residential elevators as well.
Thanks for all the advice. I called a rep in N.C. after watching a diy video. He quoted me the complete package. Seat, track and installation hardware. Up to 168 inches straight flight. I was quite happy with the price quote $2,023.00
Compared to other research I thought it was very reasonable. The company is Ameriglide.
Basic but not an eyesore. From main floor to second story
Good to see the head of the class is apparently alive and shuffling!
lol
they run off of a battery that is recharged you will still geup or down
a few times
We have a modest 2nd fl condo in OCMD. Stairs up from parking area is a straight shot. At my age, groceries, cases of water, clothes, etc are a problem. More interested in using it as a dumbwaiter than to ride up & down. We winterize in Nov and reopen St Patty’s Day week. Do they come in rainproof models?
LOL! Great song; great stairway. :)
It certainly does. Before making an investment it is reassuring to hear positive evaluations. I had not even considered a refurbished. That might also be an option when I call them back. Thank you.
