Music—specifically popular rock music—can have a polarizing effect on listeners. One fan's favorite band is the one another person detests most. As head-scratching as it may be, there are even people who hate the Beatles. That's because art is subjective by nature, so it's difficult to assess with an analytical or mathematical approach. But that didn't stop us from trying to do just that. At Best Life, we set out to use data to determine the most hated rock band of all time.
Once we had our list, we looked at five key metrics, from expert opinions to fan surveys. To start, we looked at LA Weekly's list of the top 20 worst bands of all time. Then we turned our attention to Vice's list of the 123 worst musicians of all time. Since the list was not ranked, if a band was on the list, it got points added to its score; if it wasn't, no points were added. Then we looked at the top 21 most overly hated bands according to Ultimate Guitar, a popular music and guitar instruction website. Finally, we used two polls from Ranker, the 102 most overrated bands and the 421 worst rock bands of all time.
We then assigned each metric a weighted value* before running them through our exclusive algorithm to see how each artist scored on our 100-point scale Hated Band Index. Read on to discover which group was deemed the most hated rock band of all time, based on the numbers.

I don't think I ever used the word 'suck/sucks/sucked'. That must be your word.
Great bands.
I agree my friend.
Not even that good.
I love the song "Red Barchetta" for what it means, but I can only read the lyrics. I can't listen to the song.
There’s a distinct correlation here of most hated = most overplayed/oversaturation of radio play. These aren’t the worst bands, or really even the most hated. They became hated because you couldn’t escape hearing them.
Rush does suck though. And Oasis, they really suck.
Appetite for destruction went 18X platinum. 18 million people disagree with you.
I think this list is separating the music itself from the personality and popularity of the members.
Ritchie Blackmore and Eddie Van Halen do not have the best rep as likeable folks, but their bands popularity cannot be denied.
I know it’s not popular to say, but The Dixie Chicks were a good country music band with several great songs. They also performed, in my opinion, the greatest rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl, especially if you like something melodic. Better than Whitney Houston.
It’s unfortunate that they got political, ruined their careers and lost millions of dollars. Putting politics aside, I would listen to them over any country act today.
I’ve never understood the hate for hair metal, especially when they were replaced by the mopey, dour, whiny grunge bands. Hair metal was about the party, girls, and having fun. Grunge was about whining about how everything is unfair, and sucks, etc. I think grunge led to political correctness.
Springsteen has to be the most overrated musician of all times.
Swap two out for Rush and U2 and you’ve got yourself a damned good list!
King Crimson...
There was a box truck in my area I saw a couple of times. The album cover art from “Court of the Crimson King” was painted on the back, and it was very well done. It was awesome!
Natalie’s Dad, Lloyd is as liberal as they come, but never mixes music with politics.
Natalie is a very stupid girl.
I was going to nominate “The Archies”, but they did say ‘rock band’. So yeah, Nickelback.
I agree with your first sentence. I disagree with the second. Rush does not suck.
So yeah, Nickelback......
I have not one ounce of musical talent, and I know not to torture people by trying to make any music, or sing. Those guys (?) apparently didn't know that.
People are strange when it comes to hate. More typically, it’s just jealousy, or inability to comprehend.
I mean be honest. If you had to be stuck on a bus ride for a day, IMO there are clearly worse thing to listen to than Nickelback or U2.
Can anyone really stand Slayer, King Crimson, Pantera or those other demonic sounding bands?
I’d probably vote for Marilyn Manson or some other creep like that as worst overall.
Rush reminds me of Dream Theater, another pretentious prog-rock band, in that the individual musicians are talented with their instruments (Geddy Lee’s high pitched voice is annoying, but he can carry a tune), but as a united band they’re all competing with each other and it sounds...discordant. Except for “The Temples of Syrinx” from their 2112 album. For some reason, I like that song.
Springsteen
