The massive blast of Siberia-like cold that is wreaking havoc across North America is proving that if we humans want to keep surviving frigid winters, we are going to have to keep burning natural gas — and lots of it — for decades to come.
That cold reality contradicts the “electrify everything” scenario that’s being promoted by climate change activists, politicians, and academics. They claim that to avert the possibility of catastrophic climate change, we must stop burning hydrocarbons and convert all of our transportation, residential, commercial, and industrial systems so that they are powered solely on electricity, with most of that juice coming, of course, from forests of wind turbines and oceans of solar panels.
This blizzard proves that during extreme weather winter, solar panels and wind turbines are of little or no value to the electric grid.
This blizzard proves that our natural gas grid is part of our critical infrastructure and that we shut it down at our peril. The natural gas network is essential because it can deliver big surges in energy supplies during periods of peak demand.
Thanks to excellent geology, a century of gas production, and a fully developed transmission and distribution grid, the domestic natural gas sector can deliver surges of the fuel that are, in fact, lifesaving.

Coal won’t run out for at least several centuries, and oil may not be a “fossil fuel” after all, but rather a renewable resource that replenishes itself.
I was wondering if anyone would state that.
They will be banning woodstoves and fireplaces, mark me. Heating and cooling will be reserved for our elite oligarchial overlords and minorities only via massive subsidies. Genetic testing will be mandated to see who is “worthy” so no “identifying” as a minority will be allowed amongst the proles.
Yes, but the leftists openly use nuclear power as an excuse to funnel funds to our enemies. Even though they are against nuclear power here (most likely because they don’t want the USA to have nuke weapons either.)
They know the Iranian nuclear power excuse is a sham and are hoping Iran we’ll use nukes against us, thus tearing down “racist” Anerica even faster.
Surprised that academia hasn't demanded that the Constitution and all laws be kept in Sumarian glyphs, so that only the priesthood can read and interpret.
“Fossil” fuel is a misnomer.
>They will be banning woodstoves and fireplaces, mark me.
Already a fact in parts of California.
I’ve been pretty happy to have two wood fireplaces with gas lighters and a gas stove. Home would have been uninhabitable otherwise.
Any gas company folks out there?
One thing I hear more of lately is frozen gas lines. The freezing can only occur from any water or some other chemical in the line or equipment as methane doesn’t freeze until about -250F.
It’s either just being reported more (meaning it had been occurring and I just hadn’t heard about it), old lines cracking and letting in air vapor (which has water in it), a new chemical with a higher freeze point, or new lines that are cheap and crack more easily (letting air in).
Believe me, I think solar and wind is a total waste. Nevertheless, frozen gas lines are contributing and I’m just wondering why this is occuring now. This is not the first cold snap in history.
I wonder how people are charging their electric cars during those blackouts.

The Left is crazy.
My heating backup:
Propane indoor heater and three 20g tanks full.
Kerosene heater, two lamps, two 5g cans full.
Many candles, bulk wax & wicks.
My plan. Two cords firewood (U pick up: which is nice as “I” pick em out, vs some guy I don’t know with a truck). Two 20 gl propane tanks + one 10 gl. (Need to pick up a heater though). One Generac 6500 kw generator which I cut over carborator from gas to propane. And two cars with gas tanks (LoL).
Generator?
PV power? What is that?
The Left's use of climate change is, and always has been, about the change of economic systems from capitalism, which is fueled by fossil fuels, to socialism (and eventually communism), which is controlled by big government. That is why they want to get rid of fossil fuels. It would destroy the capitalist, free-enterprise system.
The issue has never been about saving the planet or environmentalism or the levels of CO2 or temperature of the earth or any of the other myriad of arguments about the climate. The climate is just a convenient vehicle or ruse they use to argue the subject to convince the public of the need for change.
Actually, the Left could care less about the climate. They only care about the power and big government control that socialism and communism will bring them.
It's easier to convince the public we need changes to protect the climate and the earth than it is to convince them of discarding capitalism in favor of socialism.
This is why I learned early on to never get into the long weeds when arguing climate change with liberals. Gore's platitudes and "The Inconvenient Truth" were really the convenient lies of liberals trying to convince the public without ever having to argue the benefits of socialism.
I must repeat myself. I’m in favor of global warming. A warmer planet will be more supportive of life and more comfortable for life.
Also, Gore’s book written a decade or so ago had a graph showing how increased plant activity resulting from warming lowers the amount of CO2 in the air. Thus, global warming is self-limiting.
We can help in the limiting effect by nurturing plant life on as much of the earth’s service as possible, especially in the warm climates where plant life is most vibrant.
