It’s important to know both what we know about the new vaccines and what we don’t know.
I’ve practiced for 35 years. I am always honest with my patients, even if conversations are difficult or confrontational. I will also be honest about saying “I don’t know.”

What do we know about the new TYPE of vaccine being given?
Pfizer and Moderna were the first COVID-19 vaccines to be approved. Both use a new technology called mRNA vaccine, which has never been broadly given to a human population to prevent any disease.
Let that sink in for a moment.
All previous vaccines take a weakened virus or a piece of the virus and inject it into humans to induce an immune response sufficient to prevent a disease. Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines inject mRNA, which is a protein code that instructs the body to make a part of COVID-19’s spike protein that will then induce an immune response.
Our bodies daily use our own mRNA to carry instructions from DNA to make various proteins the body uses. While this new vaccine science sounds intriguing, it has never been tried in humans in this scope. It may be a breathtaking scientific advancement heralding a new path for all vaccines. It may also be less effective or have currently unknown side effects.

Honestly I don’t think your a for questioning. The one thing this has taught us who are watching is that politically people are standing science on its ear. You had the disease. I see no reason for you to be vaccinated. Surely If there were repeat cases we would have seen them in the last 15 months.
Why vaccinate against something that it appears you are immune from. Additionally should you contract the disease against what appears to be a sizable set of odds, you could get the monoclonal antibodies in sufficient time to arrest disease from progressing.
While I don’t think you would develop cytokine storm down the road as it makes little sense as Covid also in its infective form being an RNA virus would predispose you to future cytokine storm on re-exposure and it does not seem to happen, I don’t think this is a legitimate worry.
However you have had it, you should have developed T cell immunity and I think it is not only reasonable but well within the understanding of disease to forego the vaccine.

I don’t disagree that it is a choice. As is every other vaccine. As is everything else.
Tell me why this red herring argument is even offered?
Well. There is an argument for the ages.

Bottom line:
1. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are effective at significantly lowering incidents of diagnosed Covid-19.
2. Usually 5 years of data is needed to say a vaccine is safe. With only 4 months of data, these should still be regarded as experimental.
3. “Our history shows there are good reasons why new medicines and vaccines are not rushed into widespread use until we have multiple studies and time to assess the safety and efficacy of the new treatments. If the death rate from COVID-19 were much higher, it might make the risks acceptable to try an experimental vaccine. Given that the COVID-19 death rate is a little higher than a bad flu, my opinion is that younger and healthier people need a more rigorous risk/benefit analysis before taking the mRNA vaccines.”
Me, I’ll keep taking ivermectin and HCQ every 2 weeks; vitamins D3 5000, C 1500 daily; zinc 50 every 2 days, and wait a few more months on the vaccines.
It’s different in the sense that it’s not an mRNA vaccine, requires one dose, doesn’t have to be stored at extreme temperatures. However it does contain fetal DNA fragments as it’s cultured in cells obtain from aborted (murdered) children.
Also vaccines contain other contaminants. Ask yourself why any vaccine is necessary for this virus when successful therapeutics are being used (like Hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin).
No strong opinion on the vaccine, but I can tell you why the “my body, my choice” meme is out there - this is the first vaccine where there is serious talk about making it mandatory. A “vaccine passport” for example. Or a requirement to travel or even stay employed. That has a lot of people concerned. It is the masking requirement times ten.
Keep in mind, all of this “terror” for something that is 99.9% SURVIVABLE.
Wife and I both (75) had Covid-19 and it was less than a cold by far. She has no co-morbidiities. I, while in exceptionally good health, have several - I’m overweight by 20 lbs, but exceptionally active, have cardiovascular disease/triple bypass/aortic valve replacement - but no current blockage or flow restriction and cholesterol is under control.
I had 2 - 4 hour stints of aches & some chills, no fever, headache or anything else, ibuprofen took care of problems. Tiredness for a week or two. Wife had mild cough, very slight fever, very tired for 2 weeks, slept a lot which is totally unlike her.
We both are fine now. Immunized. From Covid itself, not the vaccine. NOT getting any vaccine!

However the majority of my family, I got a big one, agree to avoid this vaccine.

Out of 21,500 participants, 9 placebo people needing hospitalization vs 1 vaccinated is NOT a TREND. It is random.
Also:
“It was hard to ascertain death avoidance in these small studies.”
Not “hard”, but IMPOSSIBLE. Zero people died from COVID in a sample like this.
The problem is the “warp speed”.
It is not a vaccine that is offered, it is genetic modification, genetic engineering.

The “emotional” response you cited is on the part of those lining up to take a medication with unknown long term effects, questionable efficacy, & only emergency use authorization. Sounds more emotional and less rational to me.
And please do continue to play the “I’m a doctor so I’m smarter than you” card. That sort of arrogance does well for your credibility. Just because I’m a nurse, I can still read. Besides, there are lots of physicians and nurses who agree with me.
