Minneapolis is planning to spend $6.4 million to hire dozens of police officers, at a time when some City Council members and activist groups have been advocating to replace the police department following George Floyd’s death.
The City Council voted unanimously Friday to approve the additional funding that police requested. The department says it only has 638 officers available to work — roughly 200 fewer than usual. An unprecedented number of officers quit or went on extended medical leave after Floyd’s death and the unrest that followed, which included the burning of a police precinct.
With new recruit classes, the city anticipates it will have 674 officers available at the end of the year, with another 28 in the hiring process, the Star Tribune reported. …

Right? And what police officer in their right mind would want to work in Minneapolis? Even if you lived there, why would you wanna be a cop there? Minneapolis must be scraping the bottom of the barrel hiring anyone and everyone they can regardless of whether they’re qualified.
No way can I see a good competent qualified police officer working in Minneapolis.
Anyone who’s still there should look into finding a job with a friendly police department in a rural or suburban area. It’s bad time to be a cop in an urban area.
I’m sure they’ll get the cream of the crop recruiting from the best housing project basketball courts in the city. After all, it takes a thug to know a thug.

I thought their city council had voted to move in that direction, of defunding police?
Against that backdrop, now they want to recruit police ?
Can the liberals who run Minneapolis make up their minds? Do they want a police force or not? What happened to the idea of social workers going on police calls?
Why any sane person would go to work there is beyond me. How long before you are accused of “systemic racism” and you weren’t even aware you were a racist?

I had been a resident of the Twin Cities area for ten years. Even New Jersey, where I was born and raised, looked better.
Shouldn’t they be recruiting from the grad lists of sociology departments around the country? lol
