Future subject?

Side Buoys, red and green!

Do you pass to the “right” or “left” or in between? :)

Thanks!

Head on is usually “port to port” if there is room. Usually accompanied by a radio call too - just to be polite.

Overtaking is ok, so long as the stand on vessel (the one being passed) maintains speed and course.

In between? Oh heck no! Way bad juju!

There are two mnemonics that the prudent navigator should keep to mind for safe and successful piloting.

1) "Even Red Nuns have Odd Black Cans." Nun buoys are painted red and have even numbers. Can buoys are painted black and odd numbers. The same color and numbering scheme applies to fixed channel markers.

2) "The best people on Earth leave black port on entering." You should leave black markers to port and red markers to starboard when entering harbor.
