It's the spread renowned for its 'Love it or hate it' slogan and now Marmite is about to get even more controversial by launching a tongue-burning chilli flavour.

British makers Unilever is expanding its Marmite line-up with limited-edition Marmite Dynamite.

The new product combines Marmite with chilli and is said to provide an 'explosion of flavour'.

Unilever said Marmite fans had been experimenting with chilli and Marmite combinations on social media, and the brand wanted to 'give the people what they want', as it did with the first Marmite Peanut Butter launch in 2019.

The makers say the new spread is perfect on a crumpet, smothered on toast, mixed with smashed avocado or even eaten straight from the jar.

Sophie Allan, Brand Manager at Marmite, said: 'Literally hot off the press, new limited-edition Marmite Dynamite is a taste explosion which needs to be handled with care.

'We've ignited breakfast tables before with our Marmite Peanut Butter, but this is set to send shock waves in kitchens up and down the country.

Marmite is English, and is better than Vegemite.

Very odd that an American co makes products specifically for overseas markets, and we get stuck with Cheez Whiz.

I get it occasionally up here in the great white north. Its fairly easily available. As an Aussie they are virtually the same to me. Colouring wise Vegemite is less black and slightly more tawnyish. Marmite from what I read is a bit older in heritage.

So what’s the deal on this stuff?
Most of humanity likes yeast, we love yeast rolls we love sourdough, so why is America revolted by this stuff?

Its an acquired taste. You just dab it a bit on whatever one is shmearing it on. Too much and its way too salty. If its more than that I don’t know. From what I rread it was developed for eating in the trenches of WW I.

Chilli with two Ls?

They also spell it that way in the Subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc.). Sometimes it's spelled "chilly" down there. I always spell it "chile."

Marmite and vegemite are basically the scrapings from the the beer making process. It’s very pungent, yeasty, and to most westerners, dreadful.
