While several Republican senators are in agreement that former President Trump's legal team didn't hit their opening arguments out of the park on the first day of his second impeachment trial on Tuesday, those same Republicans don't appear to be convinced enough to have changed their minds. Forty-four Republicans still voted that the trial was unconstitutional, suggesting that the Democrats will not have the votes to convict Trump, now a private citizen.
Even Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), who called this "the stupidest week in the Senate," admitted the Democratic impeachment managers gave the superior presentation. But that won't change his vote because Trump's team, he says, is on the side of the Constitution.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was so sure of that outcome that he says he personally told Trump that this trial is still going nowhere.
"I reinforced to the president, the case is over," Graham said he told Trump, per the Hill pool. "It’s just a matter of getting the final verdict now."
Sen. Graham added that he believes Trump's lawyers, Bruce Castor and David Schoen, can and will do better as the trial proceeds.
He's not the only one hoping they see a real improvement. As you can see, several Senate Republicans were unimpressed with the defense's meandering arguments.

At the end of the day, the Democrats' argument, no matter how eloquent, is "not going to succeed," Sen. Ted Cruz concurred on Fox News.
There's no confirmation that the murderer was male or that they were Capitol Police. They might be a staffer or a congress critter.
“”I reinforced to the president, the case is over,” Graham said he told Trump, per the Hill pool.
“It’s just a matter of getting the final verdict now.””
Graham is telling Trump there is no way there are going to convict him in this sham trial.
Are you willing to bet your continued participation here at FR on that?
Simple wager, if the Senate votes to convict, I’ll leave FR forever, if not, you leave. (Remember it takes 67 votes).
Let’s see if you actually believe what you just spewed.
I personally think these dems are willing vessels of satan. Just look at their agenda.
Agreed..
Yet, there are those on this very site, that will tell you that what you think is not real, and you need to vote republican, no matter what, because you just need to...
The good thing may be that after this is over and President Trump has been cleared of all charges...he can’t be charged again as a private citizen. See Manafort case.
Wasn’t the NY AG talking about bringing a bunch of ridiculous charges against President Trump? I doubt this is the end of this saga. This poor guy spends four years of his life doing everything he can to help this country and in return he gets hounded by Democrats and the media for the rest of his life.
No good deed goes unpunished, right?
Come on, coward. It should be an easy bet to take.
If you are so sure the GOP will “stab Trump in the back” and vote to convict, what do you have to lose?
Cowards make predictions with no skin in the game, I just called your bluff. Let’s see if you are man enough to play.
I think they will have an acquittal for impeachment, but vote to not allow him to run for federal office ever again. That’s the negotiation.
What tard thinks you can give a superior unconstitutional argument?
The defense team should drag this on and on and on and on ..,. until the Dems are screaming that their agenda is being blocked by the Impeachment and nothing is getting done. I am sure that with enough subpoenas, cross examination, videos, reading of FBI case notes, etc that this could be dragged out till Mid June easily.

This is an ongoing political battle and not a zero sum game.
The Senate GOP is stabbing President Trump in the back every day they lay like doormats while Dems walk all over them, President Trump and 75 million GOP voters.
“It takes 67 to remove...”
We know that. But the headlines will read “Majority Finds Trump Guilty!”
Four paragraphs down: “Due to a legal technicality however, Mr. Trump will remain free.”
You want to take my bet?
Well are the RINOS who voted for the trial now RINOROOS?
Graham told us to "stay tuned" for the Durham report.
Given 44 Senators believe this sham is not even constitutional I think the probability of Trump getting convicted is pretty low.
Graham is in the Senate and closer to it than we are so he would know.
