The next time you hear a politician use the Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, But one advertising agency did a good job of Putting that figure into some perspective in One of its releases.
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain... let's take a look at New Orleans ... It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) was asking Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS To rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number... What does it mean?
A. Well .. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman and child) You each get $516,528
B. Or... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
C. Or... If you are a family of four... Your family gets$2,066,012.
Washington , D.C

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago... And our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt... We had the largest middle class in the world... And Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened? Can you spell 'politicians'!
And I still have to Press '1' For English.
I hope this goes around the USA At least 100 times
What the heck has happened to our country?????
I remember back in the day, 1 Million seemed like a lot. Then Billion crept into fiscal conversations. Now Trillions are tossed around like it was nothing. Go figure.

A trillion here a trillion there, pretty soon you’re talking about real money. :-)
Keep in mind that when leftists talk about “the hottest year on record”, what they really mean is their observed temperature record keeping of about 100 years or so, the accuracy of their data notwithstanding. If the age of Earth is estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old, that means their sample record is to the age of the planet what one second is to about 130 years.
Funny. I used that exact quote in another thread before I came in here...
Our brains are just not wired to truly understand large numbers. I had a college prof once who did a demo once, and almost nobody was able to do it correctly.
Draw a line 10 inches long. Let that line be a number line with1 trillion being the right endpoint (zero being the left). Now mark points on that line where you think 1 billion and 1 million should go. Sounds simple, but most people can’t do it correctly. Most people would put 1 billion somewhere a bit to the left of the midpoint, and a million somewhere left of that. Stop reading now if you want to try it before reading the right answer.
Right answer: 1 billion would be the point 0.01 inches from the left endpoint. 1 million would be 0.00001 inches from the left endpoint - you’d need a microscope to distinguish it from zero (and probably a magnifying glass for 1 billion). Marking both 1 billion and 1 million at the left end of the line is much closer to being correct than anything most people would do.
1 inch would be 100 billion.
Great visual for a trillion dollars!!
