MILWAUKEE—A driver survived when his pickup truck plunged about 70 feet off a slippery interchange exit ramp in Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin Department of Transportation camera captured the Milwaukee-area crash. The video shows the pickup hitting snow on the right shoulder before flipping over the barrier wall and plummeting to Interstate 94 below as cars pass by.
When deputies arrived, they found the pickup upright in the right shoulder of the westbound I-94 lanes, the sheriff’s office said. Two people were already trying to help the driver, who was conscious and breathing.
The man was taken to a hospital to be evaluated, sheriff’s officials said.
A highway official said crews work as quickly as possible to eliminate snow from shoulders in order to avoid crashes.
“The biggest risk with that is the melting and the freezing creates sort of a ramp, a natural ramp,” Milwaukee County’s Director of Highways and Maintenance Eddie Santiago told WISN-TV.
Santiago said that after plowing, snowplows shift to snow removal from bridges and overpasses because of the potential danger.
A girl in Yogo was blown off the Mackinaw Bridge in the late 80s.
I was finishing my degree at Tech and crossed that freak about 10 times a year.
When the high wind alert is up, it redefines white knuckling.
I remember that, thought it was early 80s but no matter. I don’t like that bridge, not sure why. Maybe the height above the cold, dark water below. Or ice.
Did you see the fuel line ignite? At the ~25 foot mark?
Keep in mind the Yugo girl was doing normal double the speed limit and the car took flight and sailed over the guardrail.
Want to have fun, drive a bus across the Mackinac bridge. You actually had to steer slightly into the wind and straighten out when you got to the tower.
The hub of the wheels were higher than the guardrail
Folks, this is an amazingly positive story from otherwise certain death.
Thank you, God.
Wow, missed that. Good catch. Probably tore off the tank or fuel line when he went over.
The inside lanes both sides are see through grating on the Mackinaw bridge for those that don’t know.
Glad he’s okay.
Now make hi pay for the damage he did to the bridgerail.
That’s so the wind blows through and doesn’t sway the bridge too much. Hence the 45 mph speed limit. I think it’s 35 or 40 for trucks and buses. When it really blowing, they make us line up and escort 30-40 across at a time at 20 mph.
Locally, we had a stoned kid rear end a pickup of an elderly man and knocked him off a high bridge. He would have survived if there wasn’t 30 feet of water under the bridge. I am with you, the day I go over the Bridge and survive is the day I stop driving. I believe this guyed used all of his remaining luck.
The video show 3 other accidents in same area because of snow. Of course the city and state did not fix anything!
They knew of the extreme danger and decided it was cheaper to let people die.
relying on the government to prevent or solve problems has a long history of killing people...
common sense saves lives...
Maybe it’s the angle, but it doesn’t look like there is much of a guard rail on the driver’s right hand side.

Apparently not! Yikes. It’s amazing the guy survived the fall.
“I’ve always loved you!”
What kind of truck was it?

“ What kind of truck was it?”
It’s a short bed now.

Give him his wings.
Probably checking his cell phone for messages.
