There was a lot of history made at the Super Bowl last night for Tom Brady, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and halftime show headliner The Weeknd, but Nielsen today are making some history of their own.
As America waits and waits on the viewership verdict, it appears at this late hour that there will be no ratings for the Big Game any time soon for the first time ever.
Literally becoming the new definition of the phrase “You had one job,” the long-time data measurement company has nothing to report on the Buccaneers 31-9 win over former reigning NFL champs the Kansas City Chiefs on CBS yesterday. Fast affiliate ratings may be available early in the AM tomorrow, I hear. However, as a well-positioned network source said, “that’s anyone’s guess at this point, isn’t it?”
The problem seems to be incorrect metrics that have caused Nielsen to “re-process” their data. A spread sheet of ratings information did go out earlier Monday, but was quickly recalled. Throughout the day, networks were told that numbers would be coming soon, only to be told that the release time had been pushed back again.
“It looks pretty certain there will be nothing tonight now,” said another network exec to Deadline on the delay. Usually unadjusted early numbers for overnight ratings are distributed to network clients around 8 AM PST. Around that time today, Nielsen made it known that nothing was coming down the pipe until at least 11:30 AM PST.
On that and the overall unprecedented delay on the big draw on TV, Nielsen did not respond to requests from Deadline on the matter. We will update if we hear from them, or when the Super Bowl ratings come in – whatever is first.

I wondered why my neighbor was having a big party. Just now after reading your comment I realize it was the S___ Bowl.
“The Superbowl was on? Who knew?”
Tidybowl and the Walmart brand knock off. Hell of a grudge match I’m told.
This should have had a huge audience.
Current champions trying to repeat vs Tom Brady going for his 7th ring with a new team.
Cancelled cable and did not watch even for free on the antenna.
Anti American POS’s.
They’re still counting the results.
I don’t get it. 2021 - 1912 = 109.
2021 - 84 = 1937.
The Hindenburg?
George Berkeley, not Plato.
A white quarterback beat a black quarterback? Racist NFL.
I was splitting wood with my manual hydraulic splitter. Later, I played EVE Online.
The ratings must have been really bad for Nielsen to delay them like this and to take the reputation hit.
You can bet that Nielsen is just following CBS’s instructions in delaying their release until they can find more ratings and figure out how they are goings spin the bad ratings news.
It was the last day of quail season. I went out and chased the birds around, got raked bloody by thorns but never got a shot. Great day!
Big brother will have the numbers changed.
Always something better to do than watch a bunch of over rated, over paid Snowflakes who hate America playing a kids game.
I met a couple friends in Columbus yesterday evening at pub-style restaurant we had never been to.
From the multiple tv screens and big bar area, it seems like the sort of place that got a big sports-watching crowd in its time.
There were perhaps ten people there to watch the game- perhaps. Maybe they were just hungry and wanted a beer. There were a lot of apartment buildings nearby, and the place had a number of appetizers and side dishes.
Come to think of it, I passed a number of places on the way home that would seem like the sort of places that would have a crowd during a big game. They weren’t that busy either.
Me either. Bleh
Probably waiting for Dominion to find them some more numbers...
I enjoyed watching Mahomes being chased all over Tampa by the Bucs. It was rather cartoonish. And then came the DoorDash commercial.

That's good! The racist Tom Brady won the Superbowl against a black quarterback during Black History month! Outrageous!
Well, a half black one, so I guess its only half as bad. (These racial outrage rules can get rather confusing...)
