There was a lot of history made at the Super Bowl last night for Tom Brady, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and halftime show headliner The Weeknd, but Nielsen today are making some history of their own.
As America waits and waits on the viewership verdict, it appears at this late hour that there will be no ratings for the Big Game any time soon for the first time ever.
Literally becoming the new definition of the phrase “You had one job,” the long-time data measurement company has nothing to report on the Buccaneers 31-9 win over former reigning NFL champs the Kansas City Chiefs on CBS yesterday. Fast affiliate ratings may be available early in the AM tomorrow, I hear. However, as a well-positioned network source said, “that’s anyone’s guess at this point, isn’t it?”
The problem seems to be incorrect metrics that have caused Nielsen to “re-process” their data. A spread sheet of ratings information did go out earlier Monday, but was quickly recalled. Throughout the day, networks were told that numbers would be coming soon, only to be told that the release time had been pushed back again.
“It looks pretty certain there will be nothing tonight now,” said another network exec to Deadline on the delay. Usually unadjusted early numbers for overnight ratings are distributed to network clients around 8 AM PST. Around that time today, Nielsen made it known that nothing was coming down the pipe until at least 11:30 AM PST.
On that and the overall unprecedented delay on the big draw on TV, Nielsen did not respond to requests from Deadline on the matter. We will update if we hear from them, or when the Super Bowl ratings come in – whatever is first.

Well, thats clearly cultural appropriation. Re-education camp for you!
Might have to be fudge a little instead of a lot (whatever they can get away with.)
Thank you! Yeah, should be entertaining to see them scramble to cover up how unpopular wokeness/PC actually is.
You do know the words were the exact same. I can’t say I liked it but I hate when Country singer destroy it with some dumb version as well. Same anthem though.
As you can see napscoordinator didn’t bother to read any of the links I gave him. He still thinks we, and the articles, are referring to the National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner.
If you mentioned the song sung by Alicia Keys, Lift Every Voice and Sing, he would blink uncomprehendingly like a deer in the headlights.
He’s the kind of person who never apologizes, has no capacity for self reflection, isn’t capable of understanding a simple argument and can’t even comprehend the meaning of his own words.
I’ll guarantee you, in spite of having it spelled out in detail twice now, he can’t see that he called me a racist.
Whatever. I gave my impression of your lies and distortions and I stand by them. Grow up please!
My “lies and distortions” are repeated by the NFL itself if you weren’t to lazy to read the article.
Why should I do your homework? I watch the national anthem. Apparently you didn’t. In fact, weren’t you one of many who were boycotting the nfl? It was that another of your numerous lies.
The NFL has come a long way since it clamped down on players taking a knee or staying in the locker room in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and protests against police brutality last season. In fact, not only did the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans players lock arms in a show of unity at the opening of the pandemic-delayed season on Thursday night (Sept. 10) -- ... -- but Alicia Keys appeared in a moving video before kick-off that paid tribute to the song referred to as the Black national anthem.
I can’t boycott the NFL since I haven’t watched a game since the early ‘80s. Which is entirely irrelevant to the truth.
What did I lie about? Alicia Keys sang the song Lift Every Voice and Sing, known as the Black National Anthem, prior to another singer singing the Star Spangled Banner. That is a fact.
As I just posted before this, twice before, the NFL jammed it down everyone’s throats in Sept. at the opening of the season too. Another fact.
“The NFL has announced that it will also be performed live before the National Anthem at every game during week one of the season.”
I did your homework from the start here.
Good grief. Those two teams didn’t even play. And Alicia keys did not sing the national anthem at the game it was eric church and jazmine sullivan. Perhaps a YouTube sneak may clear this up for you. I will admit to you that I thought she looked like Alicia keys but it was NOT her!!!!!
Are you incapable of reading or comprehending anything?
If you didn’t watch then what the hell are you yapping about? Are you like this in your neighborhood getting into everyone’s business not knowing what the hell you are talking about? The game started at 6:30. I don’t give a F about what went on at 4 or whatever hell time you emotionally got involved since you didn’t even watch. Lol.
Since you don’t watch perhaps you should mind your own damn business.
LOL I was right when I said you are incapable of admitting that you’re wrong. Thanks for the grade school replies. There is really no need to draw out your ignorance anymore. It’s plain as day now.
Numerous other FR threads about the Black National Anthem being sung before the Super Bowl and other NFL games.
Yes < sigh >... Disappointing, as you said.
BTW: Can anyone tell me if the crowd is expected to stand when the "Black National Anthem" is sung? Is a "BLM" flag simultaneously hoisted? Do people put their hands over their hearts? What happens if anyone (e.g., Whites) don't "play along" and follow the ritual.
Regards,
I don’t watch it so the only part of the ritual that I’m aware of is the players all taking a knee. I guess that replaces hands on hearts.
Regards,
