No Super Bowl Ratings Coming Today; Silent Nielsen Has Unprecedented Delay On Big Game Results
Deadline ^ | 2/8/2021 | Dominic Patten

Posted on 02/08/2021 5:12:31 PM PST by marcusmaximus

There was a lot of history made at the Super Bowl last night for Tom Brady, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and halftime show headliner The Weeknd, but Nielsen today are making some history of their own.

As America waits and waits on the viewership verdict, it appears at this late hour that there will be no ratings for the Big Game any time soon for the first time ever.

Literally becoming the new definition of the phrase “You had one job,” the long-time data measurement company has nothing to report on the Buccaneers 31-9 win over former reigning NFL champs the Kansas City Chiefs on CBS yesterday. Fast affiliate ratings may be available early in the AM tomorrow, I hear. However, as a well-positioned network source said, “that’s anyone’s guess at this point, isn’t it?”

The problem seems to be incorrect metrics that have caused Nielsen to “re-process” their data. A spread sheet of ratings information did go out earlier Monday, but was quickly recalled. Throughout the day, networks were told that numbers would be coming soon, only to be told that the release time had been pushed back again.

“It looks pretty certain there will be nothing tonight now,” said another network exec to Deadline on the delay. Usually unadjusted early numbers for overnight ratings are distributed to network clients around 8 AM PST. Around that time today, Nielsen made it known that nothing was coming down the pipe until at least 11:30 AM PST.

On that and the overall unprecedented delay on the big draw on TV, Nielsen did not respond to requests from Deadline on the matter. We will update if we hear from them, or when the Super Bowl ratings come in – whatever is first.

I was in a dog obedience class during that time - the class was full and there were a lot of people shopping in the pet store and adjacent mall - the parking lot was full.

Usually on Super Bowl Sunday, the stores are empty. Not this time.

Only watched the post-game. Even during that 30m segment, the ads were 98% black / non-White! So multiply that, with the 4 1/2 hr game broadcast, plus the 5-6 hr pre-game show, and imagine how many blacks / non-Whites were in the ads, compared to Whites!!!! Wonder ((( WHO ))) was behind so many non-Whites not being in the ads....

At least Trump’s Treasury delivered the checks quickly. If Pelosi had been on board when Trump first suggested sending the $2,000 everyone would have received it instead of the $600. LOL

Supposedly the Super Bowl ratings were down 15% which would make this the lowest-rated Super Bowl in history.

That's why the ratings are being withheld.

Get woke. Go broke.

Nah. Biden called and said they could borrow some of his machines, they just need a bit of time to create a bunch of new viewers!

Bi-Dens were in it talking about covid and wearing masks. That seemed pretty political to me.

There’s an easy explanation for low ratings for sports major sporting events..... Without a stadium filled with screaming fans, the games have no meaning whatsoever.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the Super Bowl or Division II college basketball.

The Buffalo Bills had their best season in ages and made it all the way to the conference championship game. People in Buffalo are crazy about the Bills, it’s all they have in that stinking town. But The fans were robbed of the experience of being part of this winning season.

In any given season, there will be people who don’t go to the games in person but watch them on TV. And there are people who go to every game, and some people who go to a few games. So it’s a shared experience among the whole community, with different people experiencing the games in different ways.

But when the fans are not allowed in the stadium, the whole thing becomes detached from the community. Looking back at the end of a season, there’s no highlights of the players and the fans experiencing the highs and lows together.

Think about a typical broadcast of a game, particularly in a high profile setting, like the LA Lakers or Dodgers. The camera is constantly showing celebrities and hot looking women in the stadium, or cute kids decked out in team gear biting their nails at a crucial moment in the game..... We got none of that this year.

And that’s why nobody’s interested. It’s like watching a live performance of a band playing in front of an empty theater.

Just one question: Is this article about American football, or European football (a.k.a. soccer)?

Though, as long as "kneelers" or alternative national anthems are involved, I don't really care.

What? Are you serious? Just cuz the woman was black doesn’t mean it was the black national anthem. That is ludicrous for you to suggest that.

What a ridiculous inference!

As far as I can see, no one suggested that.

A false accusation like that here on FR is disappointing, indeed.

What did everyone think of the Superbowl?

I liked the part where they stopped keeping score, kicked out the fans and refs, and then told us who won 3 days later.

They must be pretty bad. I hear the halftime show was a bunch of satanic symbolism. So American. 😆

No apology! My comment ("What a ridiculous inference!") stands.

There seems to be some (perhaps honest) confusion on your part here - or perhaps you simply expressed yourself poorly.

FACT: You accused TigersEye of being "ludicrous" for "suggesting" that that song is the Black National Anthem "just cuz" a Black woman sang it at that game.

TigersEye did NOT suggest that. Rather, TigersEye merely mentioned that it was a Black woman who sang it. He did NOT mean to imply that it was the Black National Anthem BECAUSE a Black woman sang it. But it is the Black National Anthem (as numerous other FReepers here in this thread have thoroughly demonstrated - see above).

Thus, you besmirched the honor of TigersEye by accusing him of noting that a "Black woman sang it" and then of ignorantly drawing the conclusion that "it is therefore the Black National Anthem." TigersEye did not draw that conclusion; you apparently inferred that he had. Hence my rebuke. So, no: No apology!

On a side note: Does anyone here know if it is considered "racist" or "cultural appropriation" when someone other than a Black sings this so-called "Black National Anthem" at public gatherings? I.e., are Whites "allowed" to sing it? Or would it be regarded as provocative?

Regards,
