OK, Alicia Keys can sing. But why did she sing that song with a lot of flat notes?
And it was pre-recorded to boot.

You nailed it. I detest exaggerated vocal stylings. It usually is covering their deficiency in achieving nice round tones.
Overuse of vibrato is another coverup technique.

Blues & jazz often use passing tones “between the keys”, that’s true. But that was not was happening there. That was just plain flat.
I agree. National Anthem should be sung on pitch always. That was not jazzing it up, it was confusing the melody in people’s minds.
She’s a great singer. That was just a poor decision on somebody’s part.
And Keyes sounds as if she’s had covid. I couldn’t listen all the way through. Espcially with those annoying reminders to straighten out our thinking.
