Lawmakers want to make pizza Connecticut’s official state food — cheesing off slice lovers in New York and New Jersey, who say the state needs to “sit down.”
Rep. Patricia Dillon and Sen. Gary Winfield, both Democrats from New Haven, have proposed a bill to recognize Connecticut as a hotspot for tasty pizza joints, Dillon told The Post.
“Pizza is great in Connecticut — it’s super! — and we don’t really have chains. It’s more family-owned restaurants, and it’s a community thing. You don’t eat pizza alone,” she said, adding that she’s a fan of Sally’s Apizza in New Haven.

Some Mystic conjure this up?
Maybe just limit it to the clam pie. NY can have the Margherita and the pepperoni slice.
We had a Connecticut family open up a pizza joint here years ago. Our go to place. Great pizza! They were Greek, so also great Greek salads. Covid got them. Damn shame.
There is a pizza joint that’s been here since 1972. In the 80’s a TV commercial had the owner holding a pizza, saying “A medium weighs ten pounds!”
He wasn’t kidding. The pies were loaded with toppings and cheese.
Best in town, forever. Not cheap, though. But worth it!
Around here most Italian pizza is made by greeks.
Sorry, please keep those damn pineapples off my pizza.
I read about Frank Pepe’s clam pie so I made a version from a youtube video...since I am not near Connecticut.
Truly a yum idea. Very impressive.
They’re both hairy, olive skinned people...
We do have great pizza and Italian food in general. Not that crap Dominos and other chains make.
Connecticut has a better claim than any other state.
Idiotic, since Conn can legitimately claim the invention of the hamburger. Morons don’t know their own
history...https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamburger
I always like the Pizza in Brooklyn, but that was when a pie cost $1.25 and the people who made it were Italian. A few years ago, I found the same taste of the old Brooklyn pizza in Poland. The price was pretty close to what I paid for the Brooklyn one back then.
Conn can legitimately claim the invention of the hamburger.
Both of these statements are true. I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Unless the late night meal of pepperoni pizza is super spicy, or I put jalapeños on the burger.
Anyway, Connecticut does have some mighty fine pizza places. The white clam at Pepe's is my favorite. Pity my diet regimen does not allow for pizza often except for an occasional splurge. The Mohegan Sun casino has a Pepe's and while not up to New Haven standards, I'll go there after a good day at the blackjack tables.
Oh my gosh! Classic move to appease the public there’s nothing to worry about.
Lucky here, an Italian Restaurant two blocks away run by Italians from the old country.... everything made there..including pasta.... Pizza best I’ve had in entire life!
