Challengers to California Governor Gavin Newsom are lining up as a petition to recall the Democrat closes in on the number of signatures it needs to trigger an election.
The RecallGavin2020 campaign now has 1.4 million signatures. It needs almost 1.5 million—1,495,709, or 12 percent of the votes cast in the last election for governor—to succeed.
Those behind the campaign have until mid-March to reach their target. There have been several previous attempts to recall Newsom, but this is the first that has come close to succeeding.
"I'm in. Without question," Cox tweeted on Tuesday.
Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has also declared his intention to run.
The Republican said Newsom had "failed" California and he wanted to stand to "make a difference, not to make promises."
"Governor Newsom's ruling class has failed us. They promised equality, but gave us some of the worst income inequality in the nation," Faulconer said.
"They promised modern infrastructure, but can't even keep the lights on."

Isn’t all of this simply leading to a theatrical version of Newsom version 2.0?
It's been abundantly clear from the get-go....a character like Nuisance sought office as a means to an end:
to advance his own political ambitions. The public be damned.
Noone deserves the heave-ho more than Gov Nuisance.
It will be SSDD if Deep State is allowed to choose who runs.
Note to Californians: Don’t let Deep State pick your candidates for you or tell you whom to vote for unless you want to jump from the frrying pan into the fire.
PS: Don’t let the ChiComs do it, either.
Even if the RATS end up taking the Governorship again it’ll be fun to watch their panties get in a wad.
Last I knew CA is getting over $400 bil from federal taxpayers annually.
I think CA will likely be getting the last laugh.
Falconer and Cox(loser) split the vote and the Indian fella wins. More of the same.
What’s Gray Davis doing these days?
Ha ha
Sorry, California, it’s way to little and way too late.
They smell blood in the water!
