Lou Dobbs, the longtime host of the signature right-wing talk show on the Fox Business Network, was canned by the network on Friday night.
"Lou Dobbs Tonight" is off the air, effective immediately, a Fox spokesperson confirmed. An interim show will take Dobbs' place at 5 and 7 p.m. Eastern starting Monday.
It was a head-scratching change by Fox Business, since Dobbs was its highest-rated host, albeit on a relatively low-rated network. He often doubled his lead-in's ratings, which is a rare feat in television.
Dobbs, a veteran financial news anchor, became known at Fox Business for his sycophantic pro-Trump programs. He was one of the former president's biggest boosters on television, and Trump regularly thanked him in return.
In one of Trump's first statements since leaving the White House, he effusively praised his friend, saying Dobbs "is and was great. Nobody loves America more than Lou. He had a large and loyal following that will be watching closely for his next move, and that following includes me."
The pro-Trump propaganda bent juiced Dobbs' ratings. But his far-right programming choices repeatedly caused consternation within the company, a source close to the matter said, and his program was a loss leader for Fox because many advertisers didn't want to be associated with his content.
Most recently, Dobbs was named in a $2.7 billion lawsuit filed by a voting technology company, Smartmatic, on Thursday.

This would be on Fox Business Channel. A smaller version of Fox News. I still do watch Fox Business occasionally, I'm a fan of Varney & Co. (Or, I was, but I just can't stand Susan Li who seems to have replaced all other "Company" members.) When Varney retires, I'm sure she is going to take his place, and then I won't even watch Fox Business a little.

I was trying to look up his last show, and it looked to me like a talking head was substituting for Dobbs “while he is on vacation.” I wanted to hear Dobbs’ last show, too.
I never watched FBN, and haven't watched FNC or any cable news programs in many years. Free Republic is all the news I've needed all these years.
When the Trump family starts their own network, they certainly have the cream of the crop to pick from.

Cancelling the “Lou Dobbs Show” is an obvious self-defense move by Fox in light of the Nick Sandman/Covington Catholic High School settlement from the 2019 March for Life incident at the Lincoln Memorial.

The specific amounts paid out by the media have not been officially disclosed due to settlement confidentiality agreements. The article headings in the search results imply multiple millions of dollars for each media entity. The settlements also had the effect of warning media companies generally that they are very vulnerable financially if they fail to rein-in their politically motivated journalists or they allow less thoroughly substantiated claims to be aired without disclaimers.
The filing of or threat of multi-billion dollar lawsuits is classic “lawfare.” And it is working, at least with news organizations. The incidents this week with the walkout during the NewsMax interview with MyPillow’s Mike Lindell and the disclaimer at the beginning of Fox’s interview with Rudy Guliani are self-protective moves by these media organizations. Such disclaimers are now being routinely inserted reflexively in web articles and videos.
Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” show was the #2 show on ABC when it was cancelled. It beat all the other competing shows on cbs and nbc. It was because he is a conservative. A year later the show ends up on Fox and still on since 2011 with 1 year off after ABC cancellation. The person who cancelled the show got a job at Netflix.
