They escaped totalitarianism twice, only to see it again in America

Let me tell you about my wife’s family, formerly oppressed immigrants who came to this country legally, and love the USA as only formerly oppressed immigrants could. They are being mistreated over politics by some of their Carmel, Indiana, neighbors who should be very ashamed of themselves.

My father-in-law was born in Poland during a German bombing attack during World War II. All the neighbors huddled in the basement of the apartment building while his mother gave birth to him. She was on her own because his father was in the Polish Air Force based in the UK and fought in the Battle of Britain. which saved that country once and for all from the threat of a German invasion.

After enduring countless indignities and threats to life, my father-in-law endured the equally bad occupation of Poland by Russians who quickly established Communist control after the war. Because it was dangerous for Polish veterans to return home, when my father-in-law was 7 years old, and suffering from tuberculosis and malnutrition, he, his older brother, and his mother were literally smuggled out of Poland to finally meet his father.

The family moved to Argentina because they were not welcome in Great Britain after the war—even after their great military service to that nation. The British didn’t want to irritate their Soviet allies, so Poles were prevented from marching in victory parades in England!

My mother-in-law was born in the Catholic country of Croatia, which was then part of the nation of Yugoslavia. World War II was extremely bitter there, and we get our modern word “partisan” from the Croatian language.

My parents lived in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.

They would be horrified if alive today.

I recommend reading the whole thing. I could not exerpt enough to do the article justice. Here is just a bit more:

"Her grandfather was lined up against a wall and shot by Tito’s communist forces. They wanted her father too. He, a professor of languages, escaped to the first country he could, which happened to be Argentina. Nearly 10 years later, my mother-in-law and her family reunited there with her father. Despite their difficult beginnings, both my in-laws made a life in Argentina. As college students studying neuroscience and chemistry, my parents-in-law fell in love, married, and had three daughters. How, as Argentina’s “dirty war” got underway in the mid-’70s, lasting until the early ’80s, life there was unstable and dangerous."

It’s both sad and frightening what’s happening in America today.

The counter-coup hasn't started yet.

It will soon and Nancy and Schmucki know it. They might even tell Joe...after his nap.

"Is that what we are evolving to in the United States? Will we continue to divide and eventually begin killing each other? We must learn to live together and speak to each other again – despite our political differences."

Yes we will. There will be no reaching across the aisle, but the difference is that the Left intends to subjugate and eliminate Conservatives and anyone else who ever supported Trump. The killing will only be one way unless some unknown miracle takes place.

Interesting article.

My parents-in-law escaped the oncoming statism and defeat of Taiwan because at one time they had wealth and obviously bribed American officials for US citizenship.

Their loyalties were to China rather than USA.

my 2 brothers-in-law both escaped communist countries — one from Cuba as an adult, the other from Cambodia as a child.

One day at Thanksgiving they had a political discussion, with the Cuban calling the Cambodian a communist because he followed the nonsense of democrats during George w Bush era.

The family knew I was very political in my beliefs and remarked about how well I didn’t come down hard on the conversation.

Huh.

Puerto Rico mentioned as a stepping stone towards Liberty. As many parts of the United States, Puerto Rico has welcomed and harbored real refugees from all over the world, particularly Spaniards fleeing Franco and Cubans escaping Castro.

Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.

The left doesn’t want to “get along” and only goes for total victory and crushing and elimination of even the most modest opposition. In fact, even silent, private opposition is not permitted and everybody must, in one way or another, publicly swear allegiance to the left. This has been its history since forever, in all countries and at all times.

This is because leftism knows it is not the natural government of Man, the from of free and moral life for which man was created, and thus it must be imposed. For our own good, of course. Leftists never see the contradictions of their own behavior.

On a local level, my favorite was those silly signs saying “Hate has no home here,” or the other silly ones beginning “We believe that Black Lives Matter,” and then running on with every leftist cause, mostly focusing on LGBTQRSTUXYZ. These were usually paired with signs expressing absolute, violent hatred for Trump and his “followers,” hoping and even calling for their extermination. Very few non-leftists even dared to put up a Trump yard sign because it would be vandalized, possibly along with their house or car. Yet none of the left seemed to think there was any conflict in their slogans and positions, and they were never criticized for their violence.

Will we continue to divide and eventually begin killing each other?

It seems inevitable, and it will be mostly our own government and their leftist goons killing anyone who doesn’t toe the line.

The counter-coup hasn't started yet.

Instead we bide our time, which is surrender at an imperceptible, glacial pace. It enables us to save face, and our war cry is "Just you wait!"

I think it will start but leadership has to form and sort itself out before anything can develop. Direction has to come from the top or else the rank and file will just be running in circles.

Folks realize that the Left wants to put us in boxcars and ship us to the Gulag.

The Pentagon is already planning to ID and remove Trump/MAGA supporters from the military. The Special Forces have even been told to remove all "Kek" symbolism. I wouldn't want to p!ss off the special operators if I were a Leftie.;-)

I realize it is frustrating and scary as hell. But things will develop. You know they will.

We may fail (I don't believe we will tho'), but there will be a counter-coup.

Fleeing Franco? Way may wish we had our own Franco to fight the kind of Left-wing dystopia that we’re careening towards.

And yet, except for freedom existing for a few times now and then and in a few places here and there, for most people most of the time, oppression seems to be the usual state of affairs.

In 1776 we came out of BONDAGE with FAITH, UNDERSTANDING and COURAGE. Even
against great odds, and with much bloodshed, we battled our way to achieve LIBERTY.
LIBERTY is that delicate balance between the force of government and FREEWILL of man.
LIBERTY brings FREEDOM of choice to work, to trade, to go and live where one wishes; it
leads to ABUNDANCE. ABUNDANCE, if made an end to itself, will result in
COMPLACENCY, which leads to APATHY. APATHY is the “let George do it” philosophy.
This always brings DEPENDENCY. For a period of time, dependents are often not aware they
are dependent. They delude themselves by thinking that they are still free — “We never had it so
good.” — “We can still vote, can’t we?” Eventually abundance diminishes and DEPENDENCY
becomes known by its true nature: BONDAGE!!!

I was a child then but we got hundreds of families from Spain after WWII and throughout the 70s. Whatever their circumstances, it turns out that Spain went to almost the other extreme after Franco, and is now a consistent socialist country.
